They are indeed going to try to eliminate us dirty unwashed masses, the untermenschen, because they haven't had any contact with us in years and they don't understand us. They fear us.

The problem, if they succeed, is that we're the ones who do all the work that enables them to live their lives of fabulous luxury. What they're going to attempt is the exact same thing as a medieval lord deciding to kill all his peasants because he's afraid they're going to revolt because of his taxes. In fact, the lords measured their wealth more by the number of peasants they could enslave than by the acreage of land they owned. Because they understood who produced the wealth and who lived by siphoning the wealth from the producers.

They think they can survive by keeping just a small coterie of trusted slaves, and that the work will get done by magic, somehow. AI, robots, whatever, they have no understanding of the work that is required to maintain their lifestyles. They also don't understand that their wealth is mostly imaginary, their 'money' and 'shares in stocks' only exist as bits and bytes in computer networks, and that once the power goes out, that wealth vanishes.

I see where he made his mistake. He thinks that American 'educational' institutions are there to 'educate' students. They are not. If students learn anything in college, it is purely by accident or because they took that initiative on their own.

These institutions exist to 'socialize' students, which is another way of saying 'domesticate'. Domesticate, in turn, is another way of saying 'enslave'. So forcing students to unquestioningly obey pointless and counterproductive, if not dangerous, rules, is exactly the way you socialize kids into becoming unthinking drones who follow rules and orders without question. And why wrongthink is so severely punished in these institutions.

And, apparently, they don't really care about kiddie porn, at all.

I have seen absolutely no evidence of that and that reeks of US propaganda. Russians are generally not porn-addicted like Americans are, and I understand it is much more difficult to view porn in Russia than in USA, where you can walk into a public library, watch porn on a government-owned computer, and masturbate next to the kid beside you trying to do his homework in the library because he doesn't have Internet at home.

Because the porn industry in Russia is largely underground, it may be under the control of the mafia, with all that entails. But I've never heard any stories of large amounts of kiddie porn coming out of Russia. Europe, yes, and places in southeast Asia, also South America, yes.

Russia is turning these provinces back into Russian territories

This was not Russia's plan. Russia took the part they actually wanted back in 2014: Crimea, with the naval base and ports of Sevastopol, which have been the heart of the Russian navy since the 18th century. This was absolutely critical for Russia, there was never any possibility of USA driving out the Russians and turning Sevastopol into a NATO base, and the Black Sea into a NATO pond. Russia would have fought a war with all of NATO over this, nuclear if need be.

But they didn't need the Donbas, or Odessa. Russia is the largest country in the world, just about the least populous by area, and they have tremendous untapped natural resources. They didn't need to take more land from Ukraine, it was in fact more valuable to Russia to have Ukraine as a buffer than to swallow up any part of Ukraine. They are being forced into this by NATO, to push back the NATO missiles to a range that Russia can defend from them.

And this does not bode well for Finland, as USA/NATO moves in there with a bunch of nukes within a couple minutes' flight time of both St-Petersburg and Murmansk. Russia will not tolerate this, full stop. They will obliterate Finland, if they have to, and they don't have the same brotherly feelings for Finns as they have for Ukrainians.

As I wrote on the old place, google already crawls reddit, in fact google is now the only way to search your own post history using the 'site:' tag. And since they only make these things public after they're implemented, I conclude that half of reddit is already comprised of google's (and others') Ai spamming every goddamn sub with official propaganda. Which is exactly what we see if we go to subs like r/worldnews or r/politics.

I didn't look into it all day, then I got an email this evening that gives the title of the law:

Projet de loi visant à renforcer la lutte contre les dérives sectaires

Basically, "Law to step up the fight against harmful sects"

Given the history of France and the Jehovah's Witness movement, I think my first impression was probably correct, this is geared towards religious movements that tell their followers to refuse medical treatment supposedly on religious grounds, but in practice these sects tell their members that their refusals protect them from medical malpractice (think Scientology and psychiatry, JWs and blood transfusions). Unless France pulls a USA on this, the law will only be used to prosecute people if they cause the death of one of their sect's adherents. If they're taking 'lawfare' notes from USA, then they will go after political opponents and dissenters from vax mandates and the like.

[–]kingsmeg 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This may be directed partly at the Jehovah's Witness and Church of Christ, Scientist movements in particular, though I'm sure it would also be used to criminalize anti-vax views.

France has been quite aggressive for decades with the JWs in particular, occasionally overriding adults' decisions against blood transfusions, and doing so routinely for minors. Last time I looked into this, JWs in USA had maternal mortality rates comparable to Third World countries because they would let women bleed to death in childbirth rather than accept a transfusion.

Surgeons can often give an expected time of death accurate to +/- 20m in these cases, but the JWs counter by essentially surrounding the dying woman with their agents who guard her from ever hearing that she's about to die. They die smiling, thinking they're getting better, because they apparently get a brief moment of euphoria as they bleed out.

So on the one hand, I do want some of these people prosecuted for murder, because that's what they're doing. On the other hand, this will be used against anyone who goes against the next Big Pharma project.

2nd, USA has not given up on that island chain. They have simply moved from legal means of maintaining them that rely on bribing their citizens through access to USA and domestic benefits, to mafia-style threats of terror and mayhem coupled with personal bribes to select officials. I don't know if the change is because it's cheaper, or because that's how USA does everything now so they didn't even think to continue their old ways.

[–]kingsmeg 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I read this piece and I laughed at this:

With this objective in mind, I continue to believe that Putin’s decision to deliver a 30 minute history lecture at the opening by way of answer to Carlson’s question of why Russia invaded was a bad decision. It was bad for several reasons. One is that it was boring for the general public. Yes, the interview attracted 140 million ‘hits’ on Carlson’s website, but we are not told how long those viewers stayed tuned. Secondly, Putin is not a professional historian and anything he said would be pulled to pieces by academics in the States, not just by the usual journalistic commentators. Thirdly, the history going back to the 9th century had nothing to do with the decision to invade Ukraine, which was prompted and justified internally in the Kremlin by reasons of Realpolitik, not by what is called Romantic Nationalism.

So mr. Doctorow knows not only who Putin's audience was, but what his purpose was in reaching them and how he should have achieved his goals?

[–]kingsmeg 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I gather the plan is for Israel to go full commando and seize the Rafah crossing from Egypt, then open it wide while simultaneously bombing the Gaza side of Rafah to 'persuade' Palestinians to leave 'voluntarily'. This would force Egypt to accept the fait accompli of Gaza's evacuation into the Egyptian Sinai, or else use their military to open fire on fleeing Palestinian refugees. And of course that border would then slam shut, never to reopen. Hence the earlier Israeli attempt on the crossing that was repelled by Egyptian forces with some loss of life. The Israelis of course lied and said they repelled an attack by Egyptian 'terrorists'.

As a bonus, for USA/Israel, if they manage to depopulate Gaza in this way, they can probably just refuse to give Egypt any aid for their upkeep, much less treatment for famine and trauma.

Under the circumstances, countries like Russia are obliged to imprison some number of Americans to use in hostage exchange programs. They prefer to catch people who were actually breaking the law inside Russia, rather than officials who were procuring food for the poor in their country (Saab of Venezuela).

Finland especially just put a giant bullseye target on their country by allowing NATO in and allowing a buildup of US bases on Russia's border. In the event of a major escalation, Russia is guaranteed to immediately nuke Finland.

And why? Not only was Russia not a threat to Finland, they were friendly countries and something like 70% of Finland's trade was with Russia. So why did they do it? USA managed to capture their 'democracy' and install a US puppet who ignored the needs of Finland and just obeyed orders from Washington. I think the Finns may be waking up to that right about now.

Lost me at the end.

Heaping scorn on departures from the free-trade orthodoxy probably succeeds in cowing people who care mostly about their own respectability, but the inevitable result will be to sideline the economists themselves from the policy debates to come.

There is no danger of economists being sidelined from policy discussions, because policy discussions revolve around the prejudices and desires of the rich, not the 'good of the country'. For the rich, it is axiomatic that poors are lazy, coddled and overpaid. So economists delivered theories that said just this. Then the rich realized that they had destroyed their own countries' industrial bases, and that these could not be recovered. Cue the economists who told them that what was needed was freeing capital to go off chasing profits somewhere else, leaving the poors to die in misery. What's next? Economists will be theorizing that what's needed is culling some 7.5 billion poors for fear that we rise up against the rich. But like the soothsayers and entrails readers of old, there is no danger of economists being cut out of the equation, because they are telling the rich whatever they want to hear.

That would be a shame. As the American people, and American policymakers, rediscover the importance of promoting domestic industry and protecting the domestic market,

This will never happen. The rich and powerful will always retain their riches and their power. Or they have, for 10,000 years now. I doubt they will forget how in the near future, or decide that 'democracy' requires them to cede power to the poors. So long as financialization and rent-seeking is more profitable than building a real economy, no one is going to start 'protecting domestic industry'. Even as the MIC realizes they can't win a war with financialization instead of factories producing shells, there is literally no will in government nor in industry to build factories that make shells.

solar pays off big over its lifespan, saving the homeowner money and insulating them from price-shocks, emergency power outages, and other horrors.

Eh. Not so much. If you do the calculation with the real numbers for power generation, lifespan, and maintenance costs, it's a wash unless you're paying a fortune per kw/hr from your utility. And if Wall St. is selling you a financial product, you can bet that the source of their profits isn't the sun or the Fed, it's you.

Same for electric cars, if you use real numbers for range, lifespan and maintenance, they are never cheaper unless your other car is a Ferrari. And given the environmental damage caused in fabrication of both EVs and solar cells, they're not doing anything for the environment either.

We know exactly what they would do, because it happened.

They did not fight back, did not organize any real resistance, almost without exception. Yes there was the Warsaw ghetto uprising, but there was nothing comparable to Hamas.

What they did do: richer and more connected Jews either tried to buy their personal safety, or fell all over themselves collaborating with the Nazis in handing over their fellow Jews in exchange for their own safety. Anne Frank and her family were handed over to the Germans by just such a Jew traitor. They also used the situation to profiteer from the desperate straights of their fellow Jews to whatever degree was possible.

In short, they behaved abominably, and the Palestinian resistance in equivalent circumstances collectively shames them and probably drives a lot of the hatred towards them as a group.

In 2015-6, Democrats disenfranchised Bernie voters by flipping 100s of 1000s of Bernie voter registrations from 'D' to 'I' or 'R', stopping them from voting in closed primaries. Now they're doing it to Trump voters. by kingsmeg in WayOfTheBern

[–]kingsmeg[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It was probably millions of Bernie voters who were cheated in '15-6, and it's a testament to how popular Bernie was that this wasn't enough to swing the primary to Herself.

How? They bought lists of Bernie voters from one or more of the dozen or so big data companies that compile profiles of people from Facebook etc, and used those to tamper with the voter rolls in various states.

In some instances, people showed that their registration had been flipped before they registered to vote, so there was obvious tampering with voter rolls. Many showed signatures didn't match.

The only 'investigation' nation-wide was in NY, where IIRC 270K Bernie voters from Brooklyn had been flipped. They blamed it on one low-level Dem employee, who got a slap on the wrist (and a new house).

I was following this in real time in '16, from various sources. Then, I could not find a single report of an R who had their registration tampered with. A few Herself voters claimed to have been victims, but those only appeared once masses of Bernie voters were complaining, so I think that was partisans trying to muddy the waters.

The sanctions were causing Russia some difficulty with their grain. USA raised their prices to such a degree that countries in Africa couldn't afford wheat, they and the EU also bought up almost all of Ukraine's grain, leaving much of Africa facing starvation. And they couldn't buy wheat from Russia because of the sanctions, pretty much none of these countries have banks that are isolated from SWIFT, so if they tried paying for grain, USA would steal the money and sanction their banks. USA was cynically trying to cause a famine in Africa just to blame it on Russia, or make windfall profits on their wheat while further impoverishing Africa. A win/win, if you will.

Russia ended up giving away their wheat for free, just to deny USA their artificial famine for use as a propaganda cudgel. I'm sure that took USA by surprise, no one in the White House could even conceive of giving something away for free.

The US army also had a severe problem with shell shock with the soldiers using them, the one time they fired off large numbers of shells. Seems it might not have been such a good idea to make their artillery pieces as 'light' as possible. A lot of mass is necessary to absorb the shock of firing large shells.

I have to wonder if Russia is now having a comparable problem with their soldiers who have fired off +5M shells now from legacy Soviet artillery pieces all the way through their modern mobile howitzers with autoloaders.

For Russia, 'air defense' is foundational, because their army exists primarily to defend the borders of Russia. When they do attempt US-style interventions, it generally doesn't go all that well.

Respectfully disagree. Everyone at Harvard knew she wasn't a serious scholar and that she was a diversity hire, and they overlooked the fact that she wasn't a serious scholar because it was more valuable to them to have a black gay trans whatever person as head of Harvard, than to have a serious scholar.

Not until the Washington Free Beacon uncovered much more serious evidence of plagiarism after 11 December did Gay’s position become untenable.

These facts didn't reveal themselves. Someone with money and access paid a staff of researchers to not only comb through her corpus of work (all 12 papers or whatever), but to analyze those paragraph by paragraph by running them through searches to see what they could turn up. No one at Harvard was doing that, and without the Zionist lobby flying monkey attack, these would likely never have turned up.

This reminds me of Eliot Spitzer taking a fall because he paid expensive call girls. He just happened to be going after Wall St. banksters when that happened. And everyone took it as a warning that you don't go after Wall St. banksters because they're connected, they have resources, and they'll find a way to take you out even if they have to make shit up. In Gay's case it seems they didn't have to fabricate anything, but everyone in that circle understands that they would have if they hadn't found genuine plagiarism in her work. So no, it wasn't the plagiarism that took her down, anymore than it was paying hookers that took down Eliot Spitzer; they were both taken out by powerful interests that wanted to make an example of them.

In Sjoberg’s deposition, she said that they went to one of Trump’s casinos in Atlantic City when a storm prevented Epstein’s plane from landing in New York City.

“Jeffrey said, Great, we’ll call up Trump and we’ll go to – I don’t recall the name of the casino, but – we’ll go to the casino.” Asked at one point whether she ever gave Trump a massage, Sjoberg said “no”.

USA created both Al-Qaeda and ISIS, and only pretended to fight them. Before attacking an ISIS stronghold, they would evacuate the leadership in helicopters or buses, whatever was at hand, and then slaughter everyone left on the ground, mostly civilians but also the cannon fodder recruits from the West.

In fact they saw that as a plus, anyone in the West susceptible to radicalization was encouraged to go to the Middle East and fight with ISIS, which was collaborating with USA to overthrow people like al-Assad, and once they started to clue in, they were murdered either by the ISIS leadership or in one of USA's 'attacks' on the group. So they managed to eliminate a bunch of disaffected youth in the West, while conducting a terror campaign against their regime change targets. This is how CIA works.

A very good read, and one of the reasons I thought the war could carry on for quite some time. Both sides, USA and Russia, are using Ukraine as a laboratory to work out new ways of fighting wars. And while Russia is now coming out ahead, the end result is not guaranteed. USA could come up with some game-changing Wunderwaffen or some new way of fighting this new war, that gives Ukraine a decisive advantage.

Also, the public discussion of '$60B' in funds to give Ukraine and walk away are a bit of a red herring. The Pentagon is still fully engaged in Ukraine and supporting them in ways that don't show on the regular budget, and they have no intention of walking away from their testing grounds, at least not until they run out of Ukrainian bodies to boil in their test vat.

Still not what AI is for. AI isn't coming for our jobs, at least not for most of us. AI will be our new prison guard.

There's an old saying that if you're watching everything, you're watching nothing. They have us all under constant surveillance, they have a giant panopticon connected to our every 'puter, TV, phone, car, fridge, doorbell, traffic light, anything and everything with a camera or a microphone. But they can't analyze the data.

This was Israel's problem with their fence around Gaza. They had images taken every 10 minutes of every square meter of Gaza, plus the fence. And no way to analyze it all. So they handed 'analysis' over to an AI, then they went home for the week-end and enjoyed a nice religious holiday. Turns out the AI wasn't quite ready, plus the AI isn't much use if no one is there watching the AI's screen either.

The AI is already in use on Reddit, policing our thoughts and what we're allowed to say in public. Soon in private too.
