Yet another bullshit law, entirely hypocritical, to be applied arbitrarily by those in power against people who push back.

If they applied this text as it is, to everybody who did what's described as the new 'infractions', they would need to arrest all media talking heads, most of the government and everybody in establishment 'health' organizations. For a start.

They're the ones who pushed people not to take life-saving medicine and to instead take life-threatening toxic garbage, based on the available medical knowledge at that time.

But of course it's all bullshit. This is all kept ultra-vague, there are mentions of sectarian issues, which would point to Jehovah Witnesses and such as mentioned by /u/kingsmeg, but the 'infractions' and their consequences are entirely separate, and it's obviously designed to criminalize dissent vis-à-vis government doctrine, with the goal to control and criminalize people without power even more than is already done.

So basically, typical Macron.

I didn't look into it all day, then I got an email this evening that gives the title of the law:

Projet de loi visant à renforcer la lutte contre les dérives sectaires

Basically, "Law to step up the fight against harmful sects"

Given the history of France and the Jehovah's Witness movement, I think my first impression was probably correct, this is geared towards religious movements that tell their followers to refuse medical treatment supposedly on religious grounds, but in practice these sects tell their members that their refusals protect them from medical malpractice (think Scientology and psychiatry, JWs and blood transfusions). Unless France pulls a USA on this, the law will only be used to prosecute people if they cause the death of one of their sect's adherents. If they're taking 'lawfare' notes from USA, then they will go after political opponents and dissenters from vax mandates and the like.

It's the title of the law project, so it's what they're selling it as, while keeping the text vague enough to be applied to anybody.

It's the Macron government. They are taking lawfare notes from the USA, that's the problem :/

There are already laws about medical malpractice, knowingly trying to cause harm to others and so on. These "additions" do nothing more than what could already be done except open the door to criminalizing the simple expression of criticism towards establishment rule.

And when taken in the context of all that Macron has been doing to push authoritarianism and stomp down dissent from the streets... it all fits perfectly rather than a sudden interest in protecting a few cult members that nobody in the country pays any attention to.

Besides, they've already redefined "vaccine" and expanded "terrorism", they can easily work with what "sect" means and when it can be used to target any group of people.

It's not impossible, but for the increased penalties to apply (AFAIK the purpose of the law), I think they would have to argue that specific individuals suffered serious harm like death or severe injury.

Sure, but they don't have to go through all the procedural process to use this in order to scare people into silence.

Again, this is the Macron government, taking his cue from the US in using fear and bullying to get his way.

He is desperately trying to hold onto power as he loses his legitimacy.

Other than rich people, nobody likes the man. Many only voted for him because they wanted Le Pen to remain out of power.

Yeah, problem is that the tactic keeps working. Le Pen is used the same way as Trump is used in the US, just like her father was as well.

And just as in the US, people keep getting bullshitted and/or scaremongered into voting for the corporate whore every single time.

So Macron doesn't give a fuck at all. He already got reelected, he's got his retirement plan all laid out and has already been sufficiently of service to the empire to spend the rest of his miserable life bathing in money, and whomever the replacement will be next time, Le Pen will again be used to make sure that he goes through, inheriting all the Macron bullshit such as this law 'project' and taking it further. Just like every single one before that.

This may be directed partly at the Jehovah's Witness and Church of Christ, Scientist movements in particular, though I'm sure it would also be used to criminalize anti-vax views.

France has been quite aggressive for decades with the JWs in particular, occasionally overriding adults' decisions against blood transfusions, and doing so routinely for minors. Last time I looked into this, JWs in USA had maternal mortality rates comparable to Third World countries because they would let women bleed to death in childbirth rather than accept a transfusion.

Surgeons can often give an expected time of death accurate to +/- 20m in these cases, but the JWs counter by essentially surrounding the dying woman with their agents who guard her from ever hearing that she's about to die. They die smiling, thinking they're getting better, because they apparently get a brief moment of euphoria as they bleed out.

So on the one hand, I do want some of these people prosecuted for murder, because that's what they're doing. On the other hand, this will be used against anyone who goes against the next Big Pharma project.
