I frequent anime conventions, and last year attended a panel about kimonos.

The hosts shared how when they went to Japan, they went to a kimono store, and the little old ladies working there treat you like a fashion doll and dress you up how they see fit. Obviously you get a say, but for the most part, the sanbas treat you like a doll. It's great.

Today NPR was running a story about gun violence in Black communities. The host had two Black men as guests. All three of them were discussing ways impoverished Black people can better themselves (mostly education), but made the effort to avoid any and all mention that the Black community actively discourages everything one can do to better themselves, because they act 'too White.'

No, instead they blamed White people for:

-Keeping Black kids out of school

-Failing Black students

-Single-parents homes because

-All the Black men are in prison

-All the paying jobs require education

-Black people can't afford college, anyways

Etc. Etc. It got to the point I kept saying to the radio "Wow, that's offensive to Black culture.

Serious question, what effect do we think womens' colleges becoming co-ed will have on women that belong to cultures that forbid co-ed habitation?

We're all entitled to how we feel about these cultures, but that doesn't change the fact that they exist.

For example, my mom fell down a YouTube rabbit hole of watching vlogs from this Orthodox Jewish woman: she shares aspects of Orthodox Jewish life that outsiders would otherwise not be privvy to, such as specialized Jewish hotels, and weddings.

Their culture segregates unmarried women & men to the point the swimming pools at their hotels are far away from the hotel complex, and with segregated swimming hours.

This lady is so proud of her culture, and you can hear her smiling as she talks about how great it is to have a place to go where it's just women, and they can talk freely.

By allowing men into womens' colleges, it means women who otherwise would have attended a prestigious college now won't because the college is hostile to their culture.

Since 2016 their Pride Parade always puts Drag Queens front & center: multiple floats, and several stage performances at the fair grounds.

I was a tomboy during puberty specifically because I was not taught the concept of consent; my mom had borrowed library books about puberty and let me read them on my own. The books did not discuss consent, just purely biological "Penis goes in Vagina where Sperm meets Egg. Sperm + Egg + 9 Months = Baby! Everytime!"

Even from the age of 8 I was seeing bumper stickers that said "It's a baby, not a choice! 😀" so as a 9-year-old going through puberty, I sincerely believed a man could make the choice to put a baby in me, and I would have no say in the matter.

Good lord, do I have a story for y'all! To preface, I have two dear friends who have been a couple since high school, man and woman, but the woman now identifies as a man; "he" is a textbook transtrender, "he" fell deep into the trans rabbithole because that's what you do on tumblr. "He" is also a wicked fujoshi, and cannot understand why fetishizing gay men is wrong. I will call the man Dave and the "transman" Alex.

Dave and I were at a convention, in artist alley looking for buttons; I wanted a lipstick lesbian flag button, the classic red and pink. We could only find one table with any real pride buttons, with traditional ♡-shaped hearts, and anatomically-correct hearts, also pride-colored.

First the artist tried to pressure me into getting the orange lesbian flag "because it's more inclusive, you want to be inclusive, don't you?" I told her I hate the color orange, I want pink. She relented. Dave said he wanted to get something for Alex, and I suggested a Fujoshi button, since Alex is one. Well, the artist heard us calling Alex "he" and insisted it had to be a "Fudanshi" button, since that means "rotten -boy-" and "Fujoshi" is "rotten-girl-". At that point I was fed up and walked away from the sale. Dave is unbothered by SJW issues and just bought the two buttons. (I got the pink flag button 😎)

There's a lot of nuance and social politicking in the New England cosplay community. Lately in my area it's become socially-acceptable to tell gay people they're transphobic for being gay, it's problematic to like certain ships, it's problematic if certain ships make you uncomfortable, it's problematic to have ancestry from certain European countries...

"Nathan" asked me if I was going to a convention I do normally attend, but this year my mom & I are going to a Pilgrim Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower landing (since we missed last year), we are descended from three Mayflower families. "Nathan" then felt it was appropriate to tell me the Pilgrims were all bad, and their descendants are bad by association.

It's very prevalent, especially in hobby communities. I'm very active in the cosplay community in the northeast of America, lots of genderspecials. At ConnectiCon, each volunteer that talked to me asked for my pronouns, and there were vendors at each entrance to the con center selling pride flags.

Growing up, my hair was kept short because it was so damn unruly; I was constantly assumed to be a boy because short hair, to the point adults would tell me "no, you are a boy." Looking back, I think the adults really did believe I was a boy wearing "girls clothes," but if I were going through childhood now, the adults would be assuming I'm some girl who believes she is a boy and would aggressively try to "validate me," and again, telling me I'm wrong when I insist I am a girl.
