You will need to be more precise with your history if you are trying to use that as an argument and a model. Who exactly took power and how? Who are these "progressives" and who did they usurp? Are the circumstances today the same as they were back then? How do you account for the essentially closed nature of these institutions today, how do you propose that they be taken over in any significant way, and how do you account for the fact that corporations, universities and government are among the highest priority sectors for mandatory "diversity" quotas?

Maybe suggesting "climbing through the institutions" isn't the best example, since I agree with you, they are largely closed to us now. I'm a firmer advocate of building new ones.

My main point is that having online flame wars or pseudo street battles is fruitless and is largely for people who want to feel like they're accomplishing something when they're not. Real success takes hard work and organizing over a long period of time.
