When this happens, I rarely see a discussion on the long-term impact of lowering standards or how absurd it is to remove accepted standards to cater to a specific group.

The modern Left wont talk about it for obvious reasons, but Mr. Jared Taylor did a good video/article write up on how what you described is dangerous.

Like how a certain black doctor was allowed a medical license despite being woefully unqualified, and he actually got a patient killed on the job.

I wouldn't go near a black doctor. Of course there are good black doctors, but I have no idea whether my black doctor is a real doctor or an affirmative action doctor.
