I think the trend helps to hide the actual issues of child exploitation. Because pedophiles are people that have inappropriate sexual urges, that they can keep under control. when the media lumps, child traffickers, rapist, molesters, statutory rapist, and the producers of child pornography in with this a group of people who simply have urges, they give themselves a silent minority that will help to shield them from criticism or prosecution.

Just so we are clear, I am not saying urges are the same as orientations. urges are something your neighbor may have for your German Shepard. Where as, an orientation takes place between consenting adults.

We need to start being very specific about the terms we are using. Stop being lazy, and start framing these acts with the correct criminal terminology. The correct term for these people comes from the prison yards, "ChiMo" as in child molesters. This should be the preferred term to be used with these individuals, as it shows criminal intent, unlike the term pedophile.

If we start writing laws using the term pedophilia, you'll get into a whole weird area of pre-crime and thought crimes. Because thinking about an act is not the same as performing said act. Notably, I may have the urge to kill my neighbor for giving my dog weird looks, but that doesn't make me a murderer.

That being said. Vulgarity laws need to return. Because speaking inappropriately around a child, can be just as harmful as acting inappropriately. And "Cuties" is vulgar. I think it's self evident why a film such as "The Blue Lagoon" was acceptable, and non exploitative, where as "Cuties" makes us feel sick to the stomach. The penalty for creating such a exploitative piece of media should be X10 the Gross earnings, minimum, with the rights revoked to the property, to prevent future profits.

Edit: Formatting, moved some sentences about for clarity purposes.
