I think there is a big difference between pushing this stuff on kids (making it part of instruction), and being available to kids who are going out of their way to view these materials on their own which crosses a line I am not comfortable with. I don't think its the school's job to decide what information is allowed or not allowed, thats too far. I don't want them teaching kids the bible either, but I'm not gonna ban it from the library for kids who want to read it. I am also skeptical that many kids these days are browsing books in libraries anyway.

I can see books that are part of the syllabus needing to be approved, thats quite reasonable. Banning books from the library altogether is a different matter, and is a bit censorious for my liking

I am for what benefits America even at the expense of other nations. If we don't exploit Chile because of ethical considerations, it won't stop other countries from just doing it themselves.

I don't disagree. I would like then to stop claiming moral high ground as a valid reason to spend billions of tax payer dollars blowing shit up, often to leave it worse off (Afghanistan). Were those oil contracts worth more than we spent on the military?

I would also like the discussion of this topic among the people and the press to be a real analysis of the costs and benefits. Exactly how much richer are we for exploiting S.A.? How much would it cost to stop all of the current immigration from South America? What are the most cost effective strategies to mitigate the damage. What is the financial cost to Americans in increased demand for rent driving up prices, and the increased labor supply driving down the wages? What is the equilibrium point that maximizes the benefits for us when balancing all these variables?

Instead we have propaganda wars

My parents are vegan too, and I've gone over the protein problem with them. The trouble is there's so much bad info out there suggesting it is trivial to get protein without meat and it's not. I think the only 3 viable options are tofu, seitan, or protein supplements. Nutrtional yeast is an option I didn't include since you need eat more of it than people are generally comfortable with, a cup or even a quarter cup, is a lot of nootch.

Vegetarians and vegans need one of those if they want their minimum protein. Can't just eat whatever and call it a day and expect to be healthy. Although low protein diets can be handy for people with kidney disease.

It says helpful things like a cup of broccoli has 2.5g of protein. It would be take 24 cups of broccoli to get 60g of protein, my minimum daily recommended amount.

Things like beans or nuts are better, but if I tried to get all my protein from them I'd go over my caloric allotment. I.e. get fat.

This essentially disproves the viability of healthy vegetarianism if you look between the lines.

History

Founded in 2013 by Chris Pavlovski, Rumble is a video-sharing platform that allows users to upload and share videos. Before 2020, Rumble was not known as a place that published politically biased videos. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Presidential election, many right-wing pundits joined the service leading to incredible growth by right-biased and pro-Trump supporters. According to Chris Pavlovski, Rumble is a “clean YouTube competitor, the place they can feel safe.” Finally, in 2020, Conservative Pundit Dan Bongino bought an equity stake in the company.

Funded by / Ownership

Rumble lacks transparency as they do not disclose ownership; however, they are owned by Rumble, Inc, based in Toronto, Canada. They also don’t indicate that Dan Bongino holds an equity stake in the company. Revenue is derived through advertising, subscriptions, and the sale of video management software and analysis.

Analysis / Bias

In review, Rumble is a video upload and streaming service that feature a wide range of videos. However, throughout 2020, the video service began featuring more and more right-biased content. Some of their featured video channels include author Dinesh D’Souza, Charlie Kirk, OANN, Sean Hannity, Newsmax, and of course, Dan Bongino. While many of the videos featured are non-political such as cute animal videos, most news videos are far-right biased and some from conspiracy sources such as X22 Reports and Steve Bannon’s War Room.

During 2020, they have promoted false and misleading information regarding Covid-19, such as anti-mask propaganda: Masks don’t work, and here’s why. According to science and experts in the field, a mask is essential to slow the spread of Covid-19. Further, during the 2020 Presidential election, they frequently published false videos claiming election fraud such as this HAMMER software fraud in real-time. Finally, they also promote conspiracy theories from QAnon such as this Plandemic COVID SCAM – Fall Of Cabal Deep State And Illuminati Globalist Agenda 21 ID2020. In general, the videos published on Rumble are mostly right-biased, and many are not factual or promote conspiracy theories.

Failed Fact Checks

Overall, we rate Rumble Right Biased and Questionable based on the promotion of right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories and false information, use of poor sources, and a lack of transparency. (D. Van Zandt 1/1/2021) Updated (10/24/2021)source

Remix [far-right-wing Hungarian/US propaganda] by [deleted] in ShitpostNews

Hungarian gov’t money, US advisor with Republican ties behind propaganda news site

media, propaganda, USA

VSquarem 23.10.2020

The website Remix provides news in English on Central Europe, with a soft spin much alike Viktor Orbán’s agenda. Behind it, Átlátszó has discovered a foundation run mostly on the money of the Hungarian government, as well as a long line of right-wing US campaign experts advising Fidesz with ties to the Republicans.

by Márton Sarkadi Nagy, Átlátszó

Since I’ve been working on this article about Remix, an online news site, and the political and historical background behind it, whomever I show the front page of the site don’t show much interest. At first look, everyone sees a timely, English-language online medium of modern visual design providing news on Central and Eastern Europe.

At the time of writing this, the front page of Remix, originally founded two years ago, is filled with news items of the Visegrad Four: Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, plus some current events mainly in other Central European countries. There’s nearly no standout signs that Remix is in fact one of those mouthpieces that are financed by Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán’s regime that carry sometimes propagandistic, sometimes disinformative messages to the international public. What is more, the background of the owner and of CEO Remix lies in a decades-long practice of political advice of a US Republican orientation received by Orbán and his Fidesz party.

A spectator well versed in the peculiarities of Hungarian political media can, however, glean several telling details from the front page. The titles for the news items sometimes belie an underlying worldview toted in local media friendly with the government. The story at the top refers to Central European University or CEU — an institution hounded out of Hungary a few years ago — as the same derogatory nickname, “Soros University”, by which Hungarian governmental figures regularly refer to it.

Among several stories dealing with serious topics in the realms of politics, business or culture, news pieces dealing with migration seem to be inexplicably abundant. For example, right next to a lengthy article on defence procurements by the V4 countries, there is one on two migrant people getting apprehended on a Czech highway — like the two topics could bear the same importance. Some news are tagged “migrant crime”. The expression echoes “gipsy crime”, a racist concept championed by the Hungarian far right and “jew crime”, an analogue tag used on the neonazi Kuruc.info news site to tag some news items. Part of the front page at Remix. Source: rmx.news

And in the downmost news block, the front page of Remix displays parts of an English-language news show that used to run on Echo TV. Echo, a news television which has been a longtime ally of Fidesz usually noted for its equally amateurish and radical tone was discontinued a few years ago, while being a part of the KESMA media group friendly with the Hungarian government.

Earlier this year, I wrote a lengthy piece about V4NA, a self-styled news agency that disseminates messages of Orbán’s propaganda machinery while disguised as a global media product.

Remix, while obviously tries to cater to a more conscious readership than the somewhat ham-fisted V4NA, still shares a problem with the so-called news agency: disinterest. However nicely dressed up and written in perfect English journalese, Remix’s material seems to leave only a tiny social media footprint in the English-speaking information sphere. During September, the three top articles published on Remix gathered only 6.6., 6.2. and 1.1 thousand total interactions (that is, likes plus shares plus comments) on social media, according to data gathered by Newswhip.

The ease by which Remix fits the look of the current international milieu of news sites, dominated by a culture lead by US publishers, is not a coincidence. The owner of FWD Affairs Kft., Remix’s publisher is Patrick Egan, an American politician consultant now living in Budapest.

There’s been not much written formerly about Egan, now 51. He was reportedly a speaker at the regular Fidesz jamboree in Tusnádfürdő, moderated a public debate at Terror Háza, which belongs under Orbán-ally Mária Schmidt, four years ago his company received a 14 million HUF contract from Miniszterelnöki Kabinetiroda, and his company holds a key role in English-language, government-financed news site Transylvania Now.

But there is much more to learn about Egan, who has strong ties towards the US Republican Party and its formally non-partisan ally, the International Republican Institute or IRI. It is particularly ironic, that, according to their website, in 2016 IRI has “launched a new program aimed at countering the increasing threat of Russian soft power and propaganda”, since the narratives pushed by media organisations considered close to Orbán often share Russian disinformation narratives.

In a consultancy firm active in Hungary, Egan is working with a certain Sean Tonner, another US political consultant, who advised Fidesz during the noughties.

Since Fidesz’s landslide electoral victory in 2010, much has been made about Orbán’s connection to Arthur J. Finkelstein, a Republican campaign strategist who made a career working for the Republican side of the US political arena and his right hand man George Birnbaum. Less people now that they are but the last in a long line of political advisors originating from around the Republicans.

But in this tradition, it is surely a novelty if the expert sent to educate the friendly local yokels is turned and sent back to pollute the English-language information sphere with disinformation. Apparently, this is exactly what seems to be happening in Egan’s case, as according to the “about” section of Remix, it is funded in part by the foundation Batthyány Lajos Alapítvány (BLA).

BLA was originally established by a group of friends and allies of former PM József Antall in 1991. After Antall has passed away and no successor has taken up his politics, the foundation has gone stale, only for the Orbán administration to rain money on it in recent years.

I’ve reviewed BLA’s recent financial reports and found that, though the foundation itself is formally independent of the government, lacking meaningful other income, in effect it serves as a conduit for channeling donations from the Hungarian government to other entities. BLA’s main source of funding is Miniszterelnöki Kabinetiroda, the part of government run by Antal Rogán that is also responsible for channeling advertising money. In 2019, they received 3,534 billion HUF from state coffers, which were then redistributed to more than a dozen various other organisations.

We don’t know how much money FWD Affairs received from BLA. But there apparently aren’t any ads on the site which also shows no sign of a paywall or any other system allowing for reader contributions. Yearly financial reports from of the publisher show dynamic growth and a return on sales of nearly 50 percent — this rate of profitability belongs to fairy tales for even those media companies that operate with a recognisable business model.

I’ve asked BLA about the amount of their financing, as per my information the questions have been forwarded to the leadership of the foundation, who so far didn’t answer. I’ve asked Egan several things, for which I’ve received no reply.

One of these questions was about Klára Vizér, a former Fidesz politician who represents a personal connection of unknown substance of Egan’s to the party’s ranks. From 2010, Vizér was a deputy mayor in the 15th district of Budapest, but later lost his position in the leadership after several rounds of tumultuous political infighting at the local chapter.

Another interesting fact formerly gone unreported is that Egan has been active around politics in Hungary since the noughties. In 2005, Egan gave an interview to Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet, where he was identified a former Iraqi country director later promoted to the Central and Eastern European directorship of IRI and dubbed a “democracy maker”.

“Egan is one of those American young men, who use their determination and careers in service of an American effort to spread Western-style democracy all over the globe, be it the Eastern Europe of the nineties or the Middle East at the outset of the new millennium” — wrote Magyar Nemzet, which was back then as well as now a close ally of Fidesz.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. As usual.

I'm anything but right wing, nor manipulated by the GOP, nor support Trump in any form.

I'm also reluctantly pro-choice with abortions and emphatically pro-choice with vaccines.

Voluntaryism is against the Left, Right, and Totalitarian.

Thanks for this. Your responses to posts are much more rational and pragmatic than mine, and always appreciated. Regarding right-wing "Christians", I see many of them as politically motivated, as part of a growing GOP strategy in the past 20+ years to speak to their interests in a theocratic state, regardless of the constitution, democratic principles &c. Indeed, they use the democratic system to support anti-democratic politicians and initiatives. For example, Trump's campaign for president began to outpace that of the other candidates when he noted his support for overturning Roe v Wade. The Anti-vax movement has the same foundations with thiese right-wing groups, who in my view are manipulated by the GOP.

Imo if a doctor, or a pharmacist who is supposed to go over new drugs with patients but rarely does, would simply warn people that if they feel like killing themselves it's the just pill and if you stop taking it the feeling will pass in a few days I think that would help dramatically.

As is new patients often have little to no appreciation of the suicide risk.

I often wonder why people are so damned adamant about the vaccine. Troubling videos like this or not, the incident of negative effects are much lower than antidepressants, and the vaccine actually works for a while. There are drugs that should concern people more.

I hope covid is the start of people taking a critical eye to big pharma, but I doubt it.

Thanks for this. I think anyone can take ivermectin if they want to, but AFAIK it doesn't help build antibodies, which is the purpose of the vaccine. One could say that they'd want to get COVID19, treat it with ivermectin, and thereby have the body still try to fight COVIDID19 and thus make antibodies in the process. Seems this would be remarkably dangerous for those who have bad reactions to COVID19, and there is no evidence and no trials that would help one understand what would happen in that scenario. I suppose I am not against or for ivermectin, as I know very little about it. I've read about about the vaccines, which are safer for helping one build antibodies. Yes, they can still get COVID19, but they won't suffer much, whereas those without the vaccines are more likely to be hospitalized.

Thanks for telling me about Wellbutrin. I've known people who were on anti-depressants (not sure about Wellbutrin) and tried my best to get them to not take those. I mean, the side efffects noted in the PDR note potential suicidal tendencies and other serious problems. No more than 2 or 3 months, tops, for dangerous drugs like anti-depressants. But no, doctors who can't bother to do their jobs and recommend therapy want instead to prescribe mind altering anti-depressants. Those things make depression worse after 2 or 3 months, AFAIK. I studied the Physicians Desk Reference many years ago, where I learned how to distrust all of the stuff mentioned in there. Not that they were all bad, however, and I would think there are times when anti-depressants can help with a transition (called vitamin P when they were popular in the 1980s). But I've never taken the 1980s versions, so what do I know. Other drug options were favored in the 1970s for several kinds of depression, but those were baby aspirins, compared with Prozac and the less popular drugs. People I knew on Prozac were still having great difficulties. That said, drugs for bipolar problems do seem to be necessary, as I've known people to miss their doses and commit suicide. In any event, all of my comments here are just opinions.

No arguments Brighteon is right wing garbage but that video is simply hosted there not created by them. That was Dr. Ryan Cole speaking at a forum hosted by Idaho’s lieutenant governor.

How is the Hungarian related?

Yes, the medical experts who seem not to know much about vaccines somehow believe that ivermectin is somehow the better option to the vaccine, as if they've seen substantial trials of the stuff for humans dealing with COVID19.

Ivermectin looks promising to me. The anti-smoking drug Chantix is the anti-depressant Wellbutrin. They noticed that people taking Wellbutrin said their cigarettes tasted like crap. Boom, drug with questionable effectiveness is born. This drug may have been responsible for the suicide of Anthony Bourdain among countless others. And it shrinks your brain. Jason thinks taking Wellbutrin is why he is the way he is. I still have tremors occasionally from when I used to take it. It's nasty shit.

So why the resistance to adopt ivermectin which is considered a miracle drug and safer? Profit is the only thing that comes to mind.

somehow the better option to the vaccine,

I think on this one the "crazy" conspiracy theorists may have been right. People who have been vaccinated can still take advantage of ivermectin because we still get Covid.

I can't find a fact check that points out any serious flaws here. It isn't 100% correct, he's wrong about a law that vaccines can only be for diseases without cures and a few other minor points.

This hubabub about ivermectin is weird. I think anyone in their right mind would take it also if they had covid -- I mean why not. There's not a single good argument against it. It's well tolerated and commonly used. Worst case is when used as one part of a treatment regime is that it doesn't do anything.

I think the lady doth protest too much. The suspicious thing is how very much against ivermectin people are. Like a religious belief.

He allows all kinds of material, all kinds of authors with thousands of opinions. Just take a look at some of the comments feeds there, thousands of people post. So, it certainly is not a clickbait site but a full fledged revisionist site.

Ron Unz does push multilateralism and the 'Putin is against the Globalists' and 'is our ally' rhetoric from time to time, which I find curious.

Thank you for the responses. I am curious about the website, for the present sub. The far-right posts that I see are so obvious that I might appear to be mentally ill if I tried to explain that they are far-right. I would just get the response: no shit Sherlock. The reason I asked you about this is because you have a better sense of what's happening with Jewish news media of various kinds. In the present case, Jewish community leaders are attacking Unz, though he's one of many far-right Jews, because he posts "antisemitism, Holocaust denial, conspiracy theories, and white supremacist material." Hence I wonder why he does this, but I also don't require an answer. This is the kind of study one cannot arrange at most other websites, as you know.
