I think the DDOS attacks are happening because of reddit being mad that we started our own

Said it before. Odd how saidit gets DDoS erry time Reddit starts flogging the dead political horse.

redditors want to turn us in to reddit, voaters want to turn us in to voat

And that will never happen as long as saidit respects the rights of communities to break away from other communities with compromised mods. The sovereign mod is the most important aspect of ranked content websites IMHO. There's no way you can totally get rid of compromised/bought off/biased mods but you can break away and create a rival group which if moderated better will suck away all the old users and kill the original sub. The Bitcoin subreddit was a good example of this. Luckily reddit didn't have a dog in the fight and didn't call all the alternative subreddits that sprung up to provide truth about bitcoin 'racist' or 'hate groups'. I don't think the pyramid of debate will ultimately be the protector of this place but I do think a healthy competition among moderators will. Keep a true 'market' of ideas and this site has a bright future.

what's the difference between saidit, voat, ruqqus? community wise. new to the whole alternative reddit-like sites thing. just curious

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

In a nutshell, saidit is more centrist, voat is more far-right leaning (and saidit was created because we didn't like the bias at voat or reddit), and ruqqus is new. Hope that helps. Saidit also has a unique voting system that lets you sort by insightful or fun, and has no downvotes so your opinion can't be censored by downvote groups.

Anyway, let me know if you have any more questions

Wait what? I thought we were right leaning?

Compared to the far left cesspool that reddit has become, Mao Zedong is right leaning.

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

yeah maybe compared to reddit, but only because it leans super left... lol

Yes we're trying to be similar to old reddit.

We don't want to become like new reddit.

If you like that comic, read this article which explains that phenomenon and the growth of subcultures that get hijacked: https://meaningness.com/geeks-mops-sociopaths

No problem! There were a few interesting comments about it in the post: https://saidit.net/s/whatever/comments/4v69/how_subcultures_get_overwhelmed_and_hijacked_and/
