Jessica Ashooh is currently the Director of Policy, Reddit, Inc. She's got a very interesting background/resume that can be found with a quick search.

Well, shortly before taking her position at Reddit HQ, she was on Al Jezeera et. al. calling for the US to arm anti-Russian/Syrian forces as part of her gig as Deputy Director, Middle East Strategy Task Force for The Atlantic Group. She reported directly to co-chairs, Madeleine Albright (Clinton Sec. of State 1997-2001) and Stephen Hadley (W. Bush Nat. Security Advisor 2005-2009).

Dig a bit into The Atlantic Group and you find some interesting money behind it:

Before working directly for Soros, she spent 4 years as a Senior Analyst for the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The year and half before that she was employed as a "Subject Matter Expert" for Eurasia Group - specifically on the subjects of Iraq, Lebanon, and Iran.

She spent 6 months prior to that working as a Consultant for Dunia Frotier Consultants in Erbil, Iraq - advising the Kurdistan Regional Government.

She's also a Board member of No One Left Behind: http://nooneleft.org/ A veteran-led charity focused on securing visas for and resettling Iraqi and Afghani combat interpreters who served with US forces - an admirable position to hold, but odd in the mix.

Isn't it kind of odd that someone with that kind of resume ends up policing funny cat pics and brownie recipes being posted on Reddit?

in oregon the republican state senators fled to idaho to not have to vote on a climate change bill, the democratic politicians talked about having cops go to idaho and kidnap the repubs and bring em back to make them vote. like 1 or two trolls on the donald said they would fight cops if it happened, none of it really mattered in the end because the oregon dems mysteriously backed down and capitulated and agreed not to hold the vote on the climate change bill. I do think something shady happened behind the scenes that bled into reddit, that situation there had the potential, however small, to turn into an armed uprising, authorities treated it seriously anyway.

I agree. Seems like some agent provocateurs went to the_donald, stirred up as much violence as possible, and then the admins responded by banning the entire sub.

Would not be surprised at all if the violence-provokers were in bed with the reddit admins in some form or another. Rather than just banning the few bad eggs, they decide to throw out the entire platform. Something they've been probably wanting to do for some time now, since they seem more driven by ideology (possibly because they're getting paid) than traffic

The violence advocated against the state senators in r/news and r/politics was out of hand. I can’t remember how many reports I made. Useless I know, but at least someone has to deal with the report.

I'm not even a Trump supporter, but this is really pushing me out of Reddit. It's really sad to see what it's become, so heavily censored and biased.

It's a bit conspiracy theory, but I hope people realize that it wouldn't be past people from a political party to create false accounts to promote violence and other things to get the oppositions forums banned. Scary world we are in now...

This also means that people without verified email accounts cant vote or post or view - so they dont have to worry about ornery Bots in there any more. That's obvious to anybody with more than a passing knowledge of social media. I assume every post on Deddit that reaches the front page of any forum there is pushed by bots, that's why all the topics aren't actually informative and are purely based on tribalistic nonsense. 1) I think it's just the volume of searches for that term in the google search engine, but I'm not 100% sure

Ha I'd love that. You and I both saw a lot of this coming and that's why we created saidit, tbh. Reddit is becoming a zombie of its former self. They've been smart enough to change things slowly enough that it didn't implode like digg did, but I'm not sure if the zombie will be able to cross the IPO finish line. I bet once they go IPO, if they make it, the site's decline will go faster and faster.
