LGBT+ training . . .

Interesting. I got all my gay training all on my own.

I really wonder what's the LGBTQ+ training for in general. Do you need a whole training to realize some people aren't straight and there is nothing wrong with that? But I guess you need a "training" to learn about 100+ genders and pronouns I guess.

Great point. Actual "LGB workplace training": "Being gay, lesbian, or bi is just as normal as being straight, so don't act like an asshole about it, mkay? Let's all conduct ourselves like adults and decent human beings around here. Well, that's it! Please join us for cake in the break room!" That really covers it.

But as soon as you add "TQ+"... it's only "training" in the what-you-do-to-a-dog sense. Pavlovian. Or a la Skinner's Box. Something that bypasses the intellect entirely. Because it runs counter to all reason. Can't truly convince, only create a reflexive response. Largely based on fear.

Indoctrination, in other words.

It's even more simple than that:

Some people have partners who are the same sex as them. You may meet and hear about their partners just as you would partners of the opposite sex. Treat them as you would anyone else. Don't use slurs. And don't ask invasive questions.

This emphasizes community and commonality rather than setting us up as some great big Other. No one needs to be educated about the dynamics and language of sexual orientation in the workplace. That's not what the workplace is for. If anything, that encourages people to be more invasive. Nor do they need to be miseducated about LGBT history.

Perfect simplification is perfect :)

Yeah, basically all we need is for people NOT to do things. DON'T treat us differently; DON'T make a big deal out of it (or any deal at all). Which is the opposite of a big ask. And also... the opposite of what the TQ+ "ask". Namely that everyone practically stand on their fucking head to accommodate them.

I would have made up an excuse to go to the toilet, get water, get some air and take off my mask, etc.
