Reality is giving that anti-democracy message, loud and clear. Democracy isn’t about your freedom, it’s a long con. They take everything you have by letting you think you matter. It’s them giving you their confidence (the vote) so you won’t question the reason they’re letting you vote. It’s not because they care about you, it’s because they want to hang the poll results in front of the plebiscite so that they can point it as the reason you should accept the decision.

We took a poll of all of our people and it turns out you want us to run your life, promote LGBT in schools, and tax the shit out of you. So you accept that, after all you voted, and everyone else did, and we all agreed. No protests. No refusing to comply.

I mean I agree, but I also think that we need, as a country, to have a serious conversation about how exactly we’re going to pay for all of the things we’re doing and giving out. Our debt currently is pretty close to our GDP, that’s not sustainable. Something needs to give here. We either close down a bunch of government agencies, stop the welfare payments, slash the military, or raise taxes by double digits. There’s no real free lunch here.

The alternative theory is that we’re basically trying to avoid bankruptcy and hyperinflation.

The largess of the government comes from somewhere, and every dollar given out must either be printed (thus devaluing the dollar) or taxed away from someone else. We’ve had the good fortune, since the 1980s to be the reserve currency because of the petrodollar, but China is working on a petro-yuan and a lot of countries are starting to move away from the petrodollar. When the petrodollar stops being a reserve currency, other countries won’t want the dollar and we’ll have inflation on top of a currency crisis because we’re spending ridiculous amounts of money that we really cannot afford to spend. Worse, the things we are spending on are money sinks: welfare doesn’t make us more productive, nor does retirement money for octogenarians. If we were building infrastructure, schools, funding technology research, or something useful, a deficit might well be justified. Going into debt to pay people not to work is insane.

Most reports I’ve read were fairly vague. One said “plans to invade a country,” with the country unspecified. But, the military has contingency plans for literal everything, so it could just as easily be plans to invade Ireland or Canada or Burkina Faso. They’re not saying, I suspect, because absent the knowledge that we have plans to invade every country on Earth, the general public will mentally insert some scary enemy state into that mention. But if it were plans to invade an enemy state, it would not be reasonable for the security state to allow those documents to be out in the wild where anything could happen.

It’s a weird thing. The government is clearly trying to insinuate that Trump has important classified documents. The problem is that their behavior absolutely proves that whatever documents he actually had were unimportant. No competent government would allow national security secrets to linger unsecured while arguing with lawyers. That went on for over a year before the raid. If it was me with a military secret, they wouldn’t waste time asking “pretty please”, because they don’t want those kinds of documents in the open. Thus it’s clear that whatever Trump actually had, the security system was absolutely fine with him having.

I agree. And another thing is that a site that big makes a conversation impossible. On Reddit, if you don’t post within the first 2-3 minutes of a thread’s existence, you might as well not bother. Within 5 minutes there will be 500 top level replies and most of those threads will go 10-15 deep. The conversation can’t happen because you don’t really talk so much as post at each other.

It’s so funny to me because they honestly believe they can “think critically” yet never seem to realize that their entire world view is exactly what they’ve be told to think and they don’t understand the problem.

The quick test for “critical thinking” even going on is whether or not you ever disagree with those in power. They don’t, except to say that the narrative is not going far enough. Every part of it: atheism, LGBT, socialism, Slava Ukraini, Trump bad, AI dangerous, etc. all of it is simply mainstream talking points delivered with the worst case of smug I’ve ever seen.

They outright reject in-patient treatment. They don’t want to have to report to police or be barred from jobs that give them unfettered unsupervised access to children. They don’t want to suppress their libido with drugs. Some want access to “safe” child porn. Basically they think that requiring a MAP to do anything but attend a meeting once a week is tyranny.

A huge one for me is that Redditors tend to be absolutely pseudo-intellectual to a fault. They don’t want to actually read about the stuff they’re commenting on, nor do they want to talk to anyone who actually knows what they’re talking about. They’re smugly correct in that sense. They’re rational rationalists using facts and logic while everyone else is obviously stupid, ignorant and bigoted.

Part of it is a large contingent of college students taking 101 courses where they think they understand the subject without ever having to do any actual readings. They’re telling people what they believe having read none of the history or facts, knowing none of the statistics or mathematical reasoning or other background for what they’re telling people is obviously true. Im positive that nobody saying that whites can’t be Buddhist or Hindu have read anything other than the dammapada or Bhagavad Gita. Just like Redditors telling me that I should totally take the “UFO whistle blower” seriously have never noticed that we haven’t found a scrap of a hint of evidence of life in deep space despite decades of careful searching with telescopes and radio telescopes that can see outside of our galaxy.
