Well, that's the end of my computerized tax-filing. The only reason I even have windows (10) the last 3 years was that it was a "requirement" of Turbo-Tax and H&R Block software.

I filled out paper 1040s before; I can do it again.

That's crazy, here in Brazil the tax filing program is as multiplatform as it gets, and is provided by the government at no cost. I mean, taxation is still theft, but at least you don't have to pay extra to know how much they will steal from you.

Not sure if there is an American version of this but

100% the best way to file your taxes in Canada. Used it for over 5 years now (Back when it was simple tax) can have my taxes done and filed in under 15 minutes.

You can always file on the websites. Turbo Tax has a web file.

I don't "qualify", and I bet not many in my situation do (itemized deductions from mortgage interest, whopping state property taxes, etc.)

Even the name "Co-pilot" reveals that Microsoft customers are no longer the pilots of their own machines, but have been demoted to co-pilot. It looks like Microsoft wants to be co-owner of your machine, equal in authority in its use of the machine.

I use Linux on my main machine and that machine never connects to the internet.

For all the 'futurology' hype, we're regressing to 1960-levels of impersonal computing.

"Your" data is held hostage to various monthly 'subscription fees'. You run rented software on increasingly 'dumb' hardware, subject to top-down control of "users".

I've known it ever since Windows 10. They want to become another Apple.

There are actually people out there who don't understand and comprehend the fact that AI routines will inevitably be used by corporations and government to sift through every word you type and the content of every file on your computer. Documents, videos, photos, music, you name it. This will go beyond hash checking, and be more like automated content fingerprinting. "Let us help you by automatically finding all of the photos with your wife in them!"

These algorithms will eventually even run while offline. I mean while offline is still an option at all; because they are using predatory malware tactics to force people to link their computers to an online account whether the user wants this or not, and as soon as they've suckered enough grandmas in, they can prevent offline use entirely by claiming that it is now the only option due to popular demand, and "for security!"

copilot can fail at times so i wonder how they handle that. or just don't and let it run for everyone's excel files
