People wholeheartedly believe that money was stolen from “the people” so because she’s acting as the representative of thieves, they can be as rude as they want while they take back what’s theirs.

I don't get it. Too much is left unexplained, by people who already know what's going on. Thus they use a kind of insider shorthand, not bothering to inform anyone else because they assume everyone is also an insider. It's the lesser known corollary of the Dunning-Kreuger Effect.

While I despise all the ignorant fools who never earned an honest dollar but want to redistribute everyone else' money, I have no problem with someone who wants to make the world a bit more equal with their own unearned money. She certainly shouldn't be tweeting about it, that stinks of publicity stunt. Just like all the other Billionaires who pledge to donate their fortunes as a way to be seen as virtuous, but never actually get around to doing anything of value. Yet they manage to create a tax haven for their money, keeping it from going towards government welfare programs.

Also, there should be a special government department that specializes in preventing abuse of loopholes and tax havens. There is no reason why the rich should be allowed to avoid taxes that other people pay. The law should not be a game of words.

Through some dumb libertarian lens you might be right, but that's not reality. Once the ball of reparations starts it's not going to stop. It's never going to stop. You think these people are going to be written one check and they'll be happy with it? No. It'll never be enough.

Once the societal shift towards reparations starts it'll just spiral more and more out of control. No amount of libertarian talking points is going to avoid that.

Well, I had in mind something besides handing out coins to the peasants a la Rockefeller and Scrooge McDuck. One could set up a zero interest business loan program for them. Most of it would be lost, but in the process they would learn that it just isn't true that the reason they don't have businesses is because they don't have money. That would go a long way to wake them up to the reality that reparations aren't actually going to change anything.

Dude, we can't even get productive people to understand that these people don't have money because of their own shitty decisions. You expect them to learn it by handing them a check? That's not gonna happen. This issue is just a blackhole of cash. It'll never be enough and there will forever be greviance hustling.

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

This is a discussion about how to make a better "blackhole of cash". If the money is to go to welfare it should do it in a way that will have some kind of lasting benefit. Buying poor fat people more hotdogs is worse.

And just maybe, some of them will break the mold.

Agreed and I do think welfare can be defended. However, this "cash reparations for racial grievances" is something I do not think can be defended. If there are poor blacks I am okay with them getting welfare payments so they are able to eat, I am fine with that. I am not fine with however is the government writing a check for black people on the basis of them being the eternal victims of forever and for always.

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Ideally there would never be racial considerations for welfare. It really does qualify as illegal already, but as long as it is racist against white people no one will ever challenge it. A social safety net is absolutely necessary. But it does need to be kept from becoming corrupt and gamed. And no one should ever make the claim that the recipients are OWED it by society. They should be grateful for it.

And no one should ever make the claim that the recipients are OWED it by society.

I mean that's just a cope. There's no real way of getting over that. Welfare will always be abused and people will feel entitled. That's just bound to happen.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Except it is not a coping mechanism, it is literally taught. You can't have any conversation with a liberal about welfare without them making up claims about how poor people are victims and that is WHY they are poor, and that makes welfare required to even out the playing field. In reality MOST poor people are poor because of their own decisions and actions and no matter how much welfare they receive they will always continue making those poor decisions and will continue to fall back into poverty; relatively speaking.

[–]insta 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Sure, but the entitlement attitude is the coping mechanism. Not many people like to feel like a leech on society so they make up this story to justify it that them just being alive entitles them to certain "rights" which are almost always gibs. There's no real way to change that without serious cultural upheaval which we're so far from it's basically a fantasy at this point. We don't even have vocal cultural agreement on drag kids so don't even think about reforming that gibs attitude.

[–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Not one penny would be repaid, lol

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

And it wouldn't matter. The point would be that they would be forced to use that money in a business venture. As it is right now welfare is squandered on sneakers and hair extensions while the people who receive it continue to believe that if they only had the money they would be able to create businesses just like the white people do. At least if they squander the money on a business venture that illusion can be destroyed.

There should be no consequences for not repaying. Simply a lesson learned. It is just a better kind of handout.

[–]JamalGinsberg[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

How would you stop them from just taking the money and not starting a business?

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

The loan process would require a business plan. Other than that you wouldn't. There are already loans available to qualified people. This is a call on the claim (bluff) that they would be successful and wealthy if they had the "white privilege" of starting off with enough money to have a business.

[–]JamalGinsberg[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

You'd end up with Saul Rosenbergenstein running a scam filling out thousands of these forms on behalf of their black clients. It would be like 1-800-ASK-GARY creating personal injury claims and bleeding the taxpayers dry.

There aren't any tax payers involved. This is a private charity funded by the woke girl who inherited dady's oil money.

That's actually great. It makes 1% poorer, while not making any leftists richer (all the recipients are gonna waste the money on Gucci belts/Che Guevara T-shirts/Funko Pops/you name it). So, it is a win for any reasonable human. Hopefully, more woke onepercenters will follow suit.
