I put it into the archive just in case future generations wanted to look at it, but I found the review! Its this one and its worse than you made out!

  • ft pay is quite high for games work and benefits are also v good
  • leadership actually cares about staff and is accessible and open to feedback. If something goes wrong leadership will hold themselves accountable and fix it
  • projects are interesting
  • work is good and esp now is a great time to join
  • the people genuinely are world class, easy to talk to, fun to hang out with, and very kind

Cons

  • teams are disorganized and in some departments major feature stuff comes in at the last possible moment which contributes to crunch
  • while leadership cares they have a low tolerance for experimentation which leads to then wanting to see perfection in every area immediately which means as a studio they miss out at chances for innovation
  • tendency for experts to be hired in areas and then not listened to
  • 18/6 split for contractors erodes studio culture and increases stress for some teams
  • this is one of the most cis white male dominant teams I've ever been on in my career

Advice to Management

  • studio culture needs to change so that workers are enabled to try new things within the frameworks given by leadership. Comfort with going into the unknown together is what separates us from the best in the entire industry
  • it's not a competition between leadership and their ppl; a great leader will let everyone on their team shine so that they get to look good
  • theres no point in being a leader if all you're going to do is perpetuate the past
