Sorry, this isn't how it works. You don't erradicate the flu. Especially not with leaky vaccines with efficacy rates hovering around 60%. Polio is not even remotely comparable.

OK - I had meant that polio was eradicated in MOST COUNTRIES by the 1950s and especially by 1988. This is a commonly used reference for polio. It's appropriate to refer to 'eradication' in this context.

The polio vaccine project is indeed comparable to the SARS vaccine project. They're both anti-viral projects that have addressed pandemics.
