It's a miracle that 4chan has managed to survive this long in the internet age.

moot selling his website to a Japanese guy may have been the power play of the century. Since any white owner that allows uncensored right-wing opinions would have been dragged and beaten in the streets today.

4chan is right on the edge of being a mainstream platform versus a dissident platform,

IMO, it should count as mainstream.

It still shows up in google searches, and it receives public advertisements. Besides politics, 4chan is still a popular destination for video game leaks as well.

I agree. And in terms of memes and other phenomena, 4chan is incredibly culturally relevant.

Something I thought of the other day is how the term "zoomer" originated as a meme from there, and now even Wikipedia lists that as a commonly-used term for Gen Z.

In terms of cultural influence, 4chan may be where most of the magic happens.

I'm not saying that Discord doesn't have its uses - it's absolutely one of the most popular platforms out there, and the layout is incredibly convenient.

My biggest concern is that the company that owns it would be monitoring conversations. But situations like this are tough. I don't want to discourage people from using a popular app. But if I already had a group I wanted to get together, I would use a different platform, like Element.

Another source are the comments sections of popular websites such as AmRen, Daily Stormer (gameruprising.to), Unz etc. I don't contribute myself but these communities have been around for years.

There are also the traditional message boards such as StormFront.

Podcasts are also playing a role in fostering community as the popularity of TRS attests.
