There's hope for white southerners

There's hope for sure but I don't know that the modern South, or at least the Atlantic South East I'm familiar with, is really much different from the rest of the country overall. Drug abuse among whites is rampant here, many previously health rural areas now commonly see overdoses from things like fent and opioids in general. De industrialization hit many towns here just as hard as it did in the "rust belt" and the white working class and middle class has yet to recover. Mestizos have taken up residence in many areas - even the small Appalachian towns that used to be almost ethnically homogenous (both in terms of being "white" and anglo-scottish) almost always have a "brown" area now. The cities are filled with either Southern liberals aping Northern liberal whites or actual liberal white transplants (usually from the NE) and basically indistinguishable from any other American city. Race mixing by younger white women in urban areas and suburbs is common and par for the course, men don't race mix as much since black women and mestizos (the high indigenous mix kind North of Florida) are often the only significant non white population but it's not super uncommon either. Racial consciousness (besides the negative national white identity) doesn't really exist in the South like it used to or as outsiders imagine it does anymore, outside some rural areas. It's much stronger in boomers than people under 40.

What the South does have going for it is that it still has a somewhat cohesive nucleus of white community centered around churches, but this is probably a minority of modern Southerners. Somewhat traditional values and culture still survives in parts of the South as well. Politically there is perhaps more potential for radicalization and regional identity polarization.
