If the races were reversed this would be a national story.

Look at the white guy in photos with them. What a pathetic loser.

In many ways I hate the film but one of the best parts of Gran Torino is Clint Eastwood lambasting the stupid wigger kid -- played by his own son -- who's trying to ingratiate himself with the blacks. Every time I see Whites behaving that way I think of that scene.

Don't get me wrong I do like it in many ways but I'm a little sick of the White sacrificing himself for noble immigrants trope. Also the whole theme where he's alienated from his actual family and finds real connection with the Hmong boy and the portrayal of his family as materialistic narcissists as opposed to the wonderful, colourful and communal Hmong -- doesn't one of the Hmong elders literally tell him 'your life has no colour? -- who he finds real connection with is annoying. Ultimately I think these themes are anti-White without even knowing it and at a deeper level the expression of that stupid Conservative idea that it is ideals alone that tie people together and blood is meaningless.

I like Eastwood's films generally though that one just always rubbed me the wrong way.
