Romans weren't replaced by near easterners, that's just bogus. Most slaves were European, primarily from Gaul and Dacia, and genetically and physically, Italians look the same today as they did during the Roman era.

Don't forget that Northern Italy was the center of Renaissance and a world leader in technology still
