Don't most education districts in the US have mixed ability classes? You have the studious A+ student who is put in the same class as disruptive IQ90s who can just about write their own name and don't give a shit about their education.

This is the problem. The Labour party in England experimented with this in the 1990s and 2000s by closing down most grammar schools (basically high schools for the top 20% of academically gifted people, mostly single sex) and sending everyone (except those who had parents with money of course, they could always go private) to 'comprehensive' schools with mixed-ability classes. It was a disaster. Many schools abandoned the practice.

Education should be segregated by ability. Bright kids, whether they're 'nerds' or not, should not be dragged down by low IQ troglodytes who want to piss around.
