If you enjoyed speculative history about Neanderthals, you'll probably enjoy this book. It's well-sourced but ultimately speculative/interpretive.

Basic premise is that Neanderthals hunted and raped humans to a population bottleneck creating an extremely strong selection pressure, hence how we evolved to be smarter and more violent, amongst other things.

Put aside everything you thought you knew about Neanderthals. Evolutionary detective Danny Vendramini's meticulous research shows they were not docile omnivores, but savage, cannibalistic carnivores: the 'apex predators' of the stone age. And everything else - including humans - was their prey.

Vendramini's Neanderthal predation theory argues that the evolution of modern humans - including our unique physiology, sexuality and human nature - is the result of systematic long-term sexual predation and cannibalism by Eurasian Neanderthals.

Neanderthal predation theory is one of those groundbreaking concepts that revolutionizes scientific thinking. It represents a quantum leap in our understanding of human origins.

I think so. It's a bit schizo but still a fun jaunt. Especially if you like sweeping meta narrative. It's takes about 60-90 minutes to read. Starts a bit slow but gets good in the middle and end. It's a series of blog entries so you have to click the link at the bottom of each section. I'm curious what your take on it is. I bring it up because if I remember correctly is has some mention of Neanderthals. I really enjoy antediluvian alt history theories and the Neanderthal predation theory is in that camp.
