If ecological collapse doesn't happen, which I highly doubt, then technology will certainly get us. Within a few decades we're going to be living in a world where a single individual is going to be capable of creating insane WMDs from a basement. This is mainly because of the nanotech - and biotech - revolution that's around the corner. Anyone who thinks governments are going to be able to control this is simply delusional. And that's if AI doesn't wipe us out before all of this. The Californian Ideology can only lead to our utter destruction. The techno-utopians of Singularity University will end up creating a Kaczynskian dystopia.
