Schools are responsible for this to an extent. Literally everyone who went to it has the understanding history as a linear thing, as a progression, and they think that the more you go through history, the better it gets, and modern times are presented as a pinnacle, and that it will only get better. There is a good reason why Steven Pinker of all people pushes this shit.

Modern European man is uncapable of understanding that people had it better under Ottoman occupation than today.

BLM thing illustrated this the best, you're either with the tyrant or you will essentially lose your livelihood, it is literally the same thing, only thing which we have now is obfuscation of power so you don't even know who the tyrant is and it's easy for for people to miss or mix him.
