Anyone who remembers the Ozone Layer hoopla in the 80s knows that there's no emergency. The press was saying the same kind of shit back then, like telling us the poles would melt and the world would be flooded and we should brace for unmitigated disaster. But disaster never came. Over the course of decades we gradually phased out CFCs and the Ozone is nearly healed. It's fine.

I think we definitely need to work toward a future with clean energy, but not at the breakneck pace people want. If you force that kind of infrastructural upheaval that quickly, you're going to do more harm than good. A change like this, to do it well, will take at least 50 years. People need to chill the fuck out, be patient, and let things play out organically. If we do that we'll be fine.

doesn't the fact that the press' urgency motivated the reduction in CFCs contradict the idea that alarmism isn't helping at least a little

also re: this article, idk if popularity fallacy can defeat popularity fallacy when the latter is larger by an order of magnitude

Maybe a tiny bit but mostly no, because the alarmism was directed at ordinary individuals, scaring them into halting their purchases of hair spray and usage of air conditioning and shit like that. The actual change came about by international meetings and accords for industries to research alternatives and reduce CFC production gradually by a certain percent over like 20+ years.

Fast forward to now, it's the same thing. They want ordinary individuals to stop driving gas vehicles and eat cricket chips and shit. But the actual change will come about when more alternatives come out and companies gradually reduce their carbon emissions over a long period of time.

We the people don't need to worry about it or do anything. The only reason people are all uppity about it right now is because those types need an excuse to be preachy self-righteous pricks.

Your argument assumes that the propaganda is true despite admitting that it is alarmist. If they lied about a lot of it, what makes you believe any of it?

Let's assume the real science was as honest as possible. That means there is a "hole" developing over the poles and CFCs are responsible. The rest is conjecture at best. What is purely scientific here does not prove that this situation is dangerous.

First, the fact that the hole is forming over the poles despite the fact that no one lives there, and no one uses CFCs there must mean that all the CFCs are pumped there by natural phenomenon, or the effects of CFCs are uniquely effecting the poles because of lower solar radiation there.

That means that the phenomenon could very well be localized there forever without any intervention. Either because the CFCs are always pumped away and sequestered there or because solar radiation replenishes O3 in lower latitudes faster than it is destroyed.

Meanwhile, the low angle of incidence of solar radiation at the poles means that the ozone layer is not necessary there because the solar radiation has to go through much more atmosphere to reach the poler terrain.

So literally nothing had to be done. And what is never calculated is the impact of all the forced changes. What products are we using instead of CFCs? What are thier negative side effects? The negative impacts are incalculable.

This is why lying is never a good thing.

Repeat after me:

There is no known "correct" level of CO2 in or global average temperature for Earth's atmosphere.

We live on a dynamic planet. Yes, the warming trend we're witnessing right now is alarming. Fine, I get that. But from there for these asshats to think they have the "solution"? Absolutely WRONG. They are trying to force a handful of variables to affect a system that has thousands. It's a child playing with matches. Just like with the jabs, they are well on their way to creating very serious NEGATIVE effects on our environment. The only thing that keeps them going is their ignorance and hubris, and the ignorance and submissiveness of the populations of our countries.

Buckle up. The turbulence has most definitely begun.

Paid shills these are. That should fuck themselves instead of spreading this bs.
