tbf it's hilarious how plants have variants with 24 chromosomes, but also 72 and 96; ants/bees/termites run around with 99% half-females, 1 female, and like a handful of males; even cattle have this Aldous Huxley gender

and for 50 centuries there isn't one record of a human "third sex" until 2010s US/Canadian college students proclaimed that they were all ladyboys but without having to follow any of the cultural traditions associated with them

It's a Cumtown bit. "Every tribe that lives in the woods and fucks anthills has like a third gender. It's the guys who wouldn't fuck the anthills. They get to like, be with the children and pretend to have breasts"

Well, there's why they need to do it- if you can say that humans have multiple sexes like plants, then every time a couple wants to breed, they have to call you and invite you to an orgy with them so they can procreate. Then you get sex like, all the time brah!

Tracing the extant language of sex and sexuality in plant reproductive biology, we examine the histories of science to explore how plant reproductive biology emerged historically from formations of colonial racial and sexual politics and how evolutionary biology was premised on the imaginations of racialized heterosexual romance.

I notice these pseudo intellectual papers always pluralize what are typically non pluralized nouns in a misguided attempt to sound smart. Learnings, histories, knowledges, etc.

I see the rot extends beyond the humanities.

No, this looks to have a gender studies “scholar” as primary author and a biologist as secondary. Bet it’s a botanist too.

"biologist"

[–]ClassroomPast6178 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, speaking as a former biologist myself, botany is really tier D of the biological sciences. You become a botanist because you like the pretty flowers. Zoologists are one step up, and they’re just a bunch of Lennys petting their rabbits waiting for George to put a bullet into the backs of their heads. So think about just how retarded botanists are.

They should do what TED did and create a PubMedx where they can put all of the crackpot stuff.

You mean a scholarly paper published in a prestigious journal showing health benefits for transitioning, or much lower levels of regret pay surgery than for surgery in other fields?

This looks more like a perspective paper that ICB publish. Interesting enough, but what makes it like the hard science papers that crush your "icky-feeling based" denials of reality?

Some plants have cake gender.

[–]clownworlddropout 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I find this kind of navel-gazing nonsense kind of demoralizing, it's just so foolish. Nothing of value can be gained by "queer-lensing" every damn thing.

[–]ClassroomPast6178 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Haha, that’s not actually true.

It generates publications and that’s all that matters in academia.

They turned publication into a metric to justify funding and therefore opened it up to gaming. It was the most retarded move and has utterly destroyed universities.

If you naively believe that the universities should examine the universe and contribute to the sum total of human knowledge then you have missed the point of the modern university. The modern university is a make work for over educated middle class work shy twats who have manipulated the noble pursuit of knowledge into a job for life (with or without tenure, no tenure in the UK, same problems).

There are good researchers out there, but I am convinced they are now the minority.

[–]clownworlddropout 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I had an inkling of this... so write a nonsense paper that ticks all the checkmarks for publication, then use that publication as justification for another nonsense paper to be funded. And the bullshit you can sling about gender-woo is endless... ugh, I'm even more demoralized now.

[–]ClassroomPast6178 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah and it’s even more insidious.

They have made up their own journals where they and their friends in their tiny little field are the editors and reviewers so that they can publish any old guff without having to worry about actual peer review.

The grievance studies affair shone a bright light into how easy it was to publish utter bollocks in feminist, queer studies etc journals because as long as you didn’t disrupt the accepted narrative they were not going to reject your article.

So they not only publish bollocks because it’s the metric by which they gain funding, they control the journals in which they publish.

We are also starting to see the top tier science journals (Nature, Science etc) fall to the nonsense too, as the graduates of the grievance studies disciplines take over all the positions in academic publishing.

The other problem this causes is that by being able to publish any old shit, they now have a growing body of publications to cite when anyone asks for evidence, hence why you have people now arguing over whether men and women are physically different in sport and anthropology is currently trying to convince everyone that women were the big game hunters and men stayed in camp to look after the children (latest edition of Scientific American).

How did plant sexuality come to so hauntingly resemble human sexual formations?

I don't know; why don't you go shove a cactus up your ass and find out?
