Liberalism is a mental disorder

That’s not what those graphs say, at all.

Right. Only that there seems to be a strong correlation. Still interesting.

The graph doesn't list the Y-axis units which is annoying, but even still.

the Y-axis units which is annoying, but even still.

The Y-axis is “percent saying ‘Yes’”.

It does, at the far left.

[–]William_World 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

the far left doesn't say units, they should have put a % sign by the numbers, but anyone could figure it out from the title of the graph

Anyone but electric sheep, which are dreamt about by androids.

yeah I think all of the bots in this thread have a screen name that is in some way admitting they are bots. Kind of funny, maybe whoever made these bots is against the propaganda and is trying to give us hints at it.

My eyes don't go that far.

Read Jonathan Haidt's article about the data, the history behind why it was collected and what conclusions they are drawing from it. It boils down to schools and universities teaching anti resilience and teaching young people to lean into their problems rather than coping strategies.

His book The Coddling of the American Mind is excellent.

Here’s the article regarding the data

like I even wish they'd picked a different title (like "Antifragile") since I can't recommend it to the people who need it since they'll think it's one of those "back in MY day--" books by another Boomer who was born on third base and thought they hit a triple

i think liberals in general are more mentally disturbed because they realize they are wrong about all the issues so they force their brain to delude itself. That is stressful over time. Being right all the time like conservatives are feels good for our mental state and self esteem. Seeing evidence and facts back up our views helps us enjoy the world more. This shows that men and women are more crazy the more liberal they are.

Here's what I've noticed

Left: Tries to redeem nature through denial. Censorship and cognitive dissonance are essential to maintaining the delusion. Nature isn't the reason life sucks, it's really all because of white men or the patriarchy or rich people or whatever.

Current right: Tries to redeem nature by absurdly redefining good and bad, right and wrong. Whatever it does is considered right and good, so that it can do no wrong. This unfortunately provides justification for some heinous acts.

Both: Identify a common enemy to use as a scapegoat. All problems exist because of them, not because we just live in a horrible world. It's all their fault. Both also want absolute power and death to all who oppose them, and think this is the will of nature or whatever their force of good is.

No one is willing to admit the obvious truth that the world is inherently a bad place. I can't say I blame them, life without the rose colored glasses is excruciatingly painful. I suppose the (recent) right can cope better than the left because it's easier to lie to yourself about morality than about hard cold facts that are right in front of you. Not that the left is moral, but their morality doesn't align with nature's, whereas the right's does.

in truth the right and left we have here and in most countries are both used by the rich to control us. You see some go outside of the lines and get criticized, I like some leftwing journalists but those ones get ostracized by the establishment and even get called rw just cuz of that. Yeah so the world is a bad place and bad things need to be done to fix it such as guillotining the rich but if you say that in public or regular social media you get censored or arrested.

This isn't enough to establish a meaningful conclusion from. This data can be explained by something as simple as liberal women being more likely to speak to a therapist.

[–]chadwickofwv 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (10 children)

They are more likely to speak to a therapist because they are bat-shit insane. The only stable women I have ever met were conservatives. Literally all of the left leaning women had serious mental issues.

It says liberal not leftist. Liberalism is right wing on everything except social issues.

    Commies, pretty much.

    [–]bopomofodojo 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, but also no. What happened is all the liberals adopted the aesthetics and terminology of leftism, without any of the actual, you know, leftism parts. Culture-war liberals call themselves left but are not left-wing on anything except "social issues" (i.e. culture war battles, not economics). That they have completely infected and coopted any attempt at actual leftism in the anglosphere is a problem, yes.

    [–]Q-Continuum-kin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

People use the word incorrectly, that doesn't mean the definition changed. I have a firm belief that we shouldn't just let definitions fly all over the place because it reinforces postmodernism and allows those in power to abuse words to twist how the population perceives the downward mobility of society.

    [–]YJaewedwqewq 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

So, in other words, they're left wing in every way that is substantively important.

    [–]Q-Continuum-kin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

No, leftist ideology is 99% economic because power is derived from wealth inequality. Flattening racial and gender hierarchy happen to go along with that concept of flattening all power hierarchy.

Liberals use performative wokeness to hyper focus on things like race and trick people into believing that appointing a few oligarchs of color solves racism and economic disparity while they do things like bail out a failed bank.

    [–]YJaewedwqewq 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I fail to see how this contradicts what I said. Leftist ideology being based in economics doesn't make the fact that they're socially liberal any less wrong, and it doesn't make their other views matter more.

    [–]Q-Continuum-kin 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You said "in every way that is substantively important". I don't think there is substance to the way liberals use tokenism to pretend to care about populist views. Liberals want to maintain a power hierarchy. It's just a different hierarchy from the old patriarchal system.

There is another group of people who we could toss the "mental issues" label at. Probably the people you were referring to originally. It's women who self identity as leftists but don't really align with any leftist ideology. They just to do no work, benefit from what they would receive from a leftist political system if it existed, while paradoxically thinking they are better than everyone else and trying to build a new hierarchy with them at the top of the pyramid.

It's like how the ACLU is historically very leftist and in the past defended the KKK's freedom of speech. Now the ACLU is starting to fill up with these younger authoritarian, anti speech, fake leftists who try to ban people from saying incredibly mild takes about transgender people online.

    [–]YJaewedwqewq 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Banning people from disagreeing with their current stage of cultural erosion is textbook leftism, as is hypocritically claiming to be working for "equality" while making conditions far worse.

So yes, these people and liberals in general are extremely leftist, unless your definition of leftism discounts every single historical application of Leftism.

    [–]send_nasty_stuff 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

...and therapists more likely to tell anyone that comes to them they have a disorder.

    [–]Alphix 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

It's funny to see real research confirm what we already knew: that the insane are liberals. Or that you have to be at least a bit nuts to be one. Or something like that.

    [–]ClassroomPast6178 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

    Nope. It doesn’t show that.

Apparently the graphs show some conservatives can’t interpret study data.

    [–]Alphix 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

My analysis of this conversation shows that apparently some people can be passive-aggressive.
