Reddit seems to be ground zero for a lot of this shit.

It is almost completely owned. So owned the main feed is an indictment of itself.

There are a few fun subs but it's only a matter of time until the one you like will get nuked.

I'd love to have the power to rename all of the popular subs for accuracy. E.g. r/politics -> r/farleftpropaganda, r/blackpeopletwitter -> r/whitepeopletwitter, r/whitepeopletwitter -> r/whiteguilttwitter, etc.

r/actuallesbians would of course become r/agptrannyperverts, and honestly I'd probably collapse the vast majority of lgbt and women space subs into r/agptrannyperverts because that's all the same people anyway.

I can't believe you forgot r/science, which would become r/religion.

R politics isn't left wing it's democratic party propaganda last time I was there. They have some crazy up/down vote bots that put anything slightly critical of the party to zero. I would sometimes sort by new and watch a left perspective article get a bit of traction then suddenly get downvote to exactly zero.

The Democratic Party is a far left party.

they're literally the "pride flag on a Raptor drone meme" party

Yeah, you've got a point there. It's almost as if the Democrats think left wing politics without a bunch of forceful coercion just isn't possible.

Did you ever consider the possibility they might be right about that, though?

The democratic party is liberal not leftist at all. Liberalism is right wing by the actual definition of the words.

liberal

Not a useful label in American politics. Too many people here use it to mean "libertine" or even "degenerate."

I don't think you're making that mistake. I think you meant "liberal" in the tradition of John Locke or Adam Smith, and that's just not the Democratic Party. They do not advocate for a hands-off, pro-business economic policy, or strong currency, or any of the other stuff the classic "liberals" supported. FDR and LBJ would have terrified them.

Their entire ethos is one of market interference. Title IX, Obamacare, the Earned Income Credit... the "wage gap" and affirmative action; these are the policies of the Khmer Rouge right before mom and dad departed for the evening and left them in charge. Hell, Hillary suggested "camp for grown-ups" in 2016, live on national television.

Very few grown people in the United States sincerely hold economic views that are more leftist than any of that. (The "tankies" you see bitching about the Party on Reddit are generally not what I would call "grown." They've never signed a lease, to say nothing of buying property. Most of them will grow up and drift to the right pretty dramatically.)

All that said, I sympathize personally. I think businesses need to be more regulated. We need to raise taxes and/or print money, in some combination, to set our federal balance sheet right. Public healthcare is an investment in a nation's most valuable asset.

The Democratic Party may not say all of those things out loud (mostly because their voters are stupid and don't respond to open, rational communication), but they are generally in agreement with me economically- and we are both far to the left of most American voters.

Unfortunately, the Party is so wrong-headed on social issues that I must vote Republican. Economics are a question-of-detail; the integrity of the species, of our DNA stock and our families, of our doctors and teachers, is of paramount importance. The greatest economic policy in the world can't help us if we all decide we're web-kin, take recreational hormones, forget who's mom and who's dad, and download ourselves into Apple-manufactured cubes sitting in a virtual coffee shop.

Democrats do support pro-corporate capitalism. Democrats used to hold the social and academic elites while Republicans used to hold the economic elites but after Trump, nearly all of the elite categories moved over to the Democrats because they were upset orange man ripped the mask off their awful policy.

The stuff democrats promote as "left wing progressive" are just meaningless fluff which doesn't interfere with corporate profits and if anything the medicalization of slightly gender nonconforming children creates new and easy profits for pharma companies.

They are a very hierarchical party in terms of maintaining an elite power structure.

I am an actual leftist and do not see anything left wing about the gender idiots on Twitter. They don't want power to be distributed amongst the workers of society, they are narcissists who want to reorient power onto themselves specifically while doing nothing to deserve the power. It's just an inverted power hierarchy which is still right wing. It's just a different hierarchy from the traditional christian patriarchy. Yes they use many buzz words but they are using almost all of the leftist language incorrectly.

And me, as a leftist believe that if i ever ran for politics, i would also need to run as a republican because I have zero chance of getting anywhere by disrupting the democratic party power structure. Republican voters understand populism and somehow now the only antiwar sentiment in the US exists in the republican party. All the neocons are moving over to the Democrats.

Well, I would just caution you against thinking any leftist political party will not, over time, turn into something like the Democratic Party (or the CPSU or the CCP): hierarchical, corporatist (not really capitalist per se, but very much invested in a few large, highly regulated organizations), authoritarian, war-happy. What leftist political party with a modicum of power has not become this? What evidence is there that some "real" leftist political party could exist? How would it redistribute wealth without kicking people in the teeth and starting wars? It may be a completely nonsensical, utopian idea.

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Right now wealth is already being redistributed, it's just going into the hands of the oligarchs. Telling oligarchs to that they need to pay higher taxes so the roads don't fall apart isn't oppression.

[–]TaseAFeminist4Jesus 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, "oppression" is kind of subjective... I consider mask mandates and DUI laws oppressive, but most people disagree.

Still, it cannot be denied that "telling oligarchs that they need to pay higher taxes so the roads don't fall apart" requires a big, armed bureaucracy. And big, armed bureaucracies don't just let their rifles rust in a barn. So I'll go back to what I already said: I don't believe there ever has been a "real" leftist party that doesn't resemble the Democratic Party, nor will there be, nor can their be.

It's honestly really fucking crazy how many of these people are on reddit in general.Even setting aside the lesbian sub, there are quite a few that i notice mod subs that have nothing to do with transgenders.

[–]FlyingKangaroo 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

r/actualperverts

[–]jet199 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I seem to remember there was a point where every single mod of that sub was either a man or a straight woman.

There can be no doubt that Reddit has some truly crazy info on people.

On an individual level. They attract the craziest if the crazies. It's horrifying... really.

I bet Reddit could someday use this data to blackmail with the best of them.

[–]alladd 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well yeah, r/actuallesbians was created to distinguish real-life homosexual women from porn subs of straight women moaning for money. TRAs took offense to that, since their whole identity is nothing but a pornographic exaggeration, and successfully lobbied Reddit's moderation teams over a period of years to close the gap.
