for a moment, i thought you had asked "what desert can you not live without?" because i've studied biomes a few semesters ago lol. and i was like, hmmmm, what desert can't i live without??? they're all really cool. i guess the sonoran desert because it has such cool wildlife and the saguaro cactus. i could live without the Sahara desert because it wasn't always a sandy nothing. it used to be a verdant area a longgggg time ago and it'd be neat to see what it looked like then.

but as for desserts, i gotta have chocolate in my life. it's genetic.

Layali Libnan, or "Lebanese Nights"

My Syrian friend's mother makes it in huge batches, it's like a luxury version of rice pudding (semolina-based). She makes it topped with pistachios, pine nuts and coconut, and a separate bottle of rosewater syrup to pour over it. I can't properly explain how good it is. She also makes incredible baklava.

Also love "Indian Pudding" which is a cornmeal/brown sugar/molasses custard served warm with vanilla ice cream, my great grandmother used to make it and it's something that reminds me of crisp New England days in the fall.

Wow, your post is such a beautiful tribute to the art of desserts! Reading it I was transported to my own childhood: crisp October nights and rice pudding. Gorgeous writing and a real delight. I shall make it a goal after quarantine to visit my friends in Jordan and somehow, somehow try to experience "Lebanese nights".

Thank you so much❤ I'm missing fall a lot. I hope you get to try it! Sounds like an incredible future trip.

I do like green tea as well, or strong black tea. My favourite is Hibiscus tea, but it is not really possible to drink it all the time.

it's very hard to mess up chocolate chip cookies so i'm gonna roll with that. i've had questionable ice cream, brownies and cake but i have never met a chocolate chip cookie that i didn't like.

Karelian trifle-like dessert with cloudberries, lingonberries and baked apples. And apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. Caramel is the death of me but I can't stop myself when it comes to ice cream toppings.

Rice pudding, mostly because it can be found almost all around the world and thus you can never grow tired of the flavouring as it differs from region to region. Or sorbet, cause... sorbet can be made with a lot of different flavours and it's incredibly during summer evenings (as is evident by the amount of sorbet I've had this summer). But I think I will have to say rice pudding at the end of the day.
