Saw Dune (the new one). Won't review here but worth watching for anyone who is at all curious. From others I keep hearing: See it on the biggest screen you can find. (I didn't, I streamed it.)

Recently finished Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. I read a separate Booker Prize-nominated book (The Promise by Damon Galgut - avoid) for a book club, but decided to give GC a go since it was the one I voted for originally, and it was incredible. Definite escapism material now that the nights are drawing in and the colder weather is here. Curl up with a hot chocolate and give it a go!

Wishing everyone a nice Sunday and a Happy Halloween to anyone who celebrate it. Highly recommend the movie Paranorman if you haven't seen it.

Had a wedding reception tonight and expected a nice long dance party. Found out we could have none of our music last minute. We didn't eat the cake I spent hours making. I didn't get a single full body picture of me and my husband (a few selfies only) and most of our friends left by 7. Also, not one blood relative of mine attended.

Guess what? I cried, I was mad...

Now, I'm sitting in bed venting to you lovely people. My husband and daughter are sleeping next to me.

I'm happy.

Luckily this was just our reception, we already eloped a week ago in a beautiful place. For these reasons and so many more!

I'm so sorry, I would have been upset too! It should have been a special and fun celebration with your loved ones, and instead it sounds like it was really disappointing :(

Any idea why things went so poorly?

I took my dog to the vet today, and she likely has cancer :(

Vet is doing bloodwork and sending cultures off to the lab. I should hear back this week and find out if she's eligible for surgery and/or what the next steps are.

Oh no... How old is she? Did you take her to the vet because she had symptoms?

She's 11, so getting up there in years. She had a mast cell tumor removed from her leg a few years back, and about 6 months ago, I noticed a small fleshy-looking growth in a similar area (deep inside on her leg, near the fold of her groin). I didn't think much of it at first since the vet had mentioned it's not uncommon to get small growths of tissue near the surgical site, plus she has lipomas and the occasional skin tag.

I checked on it again last week and saw that the growth had grown and changed color - red-and-black mottled, and really angry looking. Like, I know nothing about cancer and I immediately thought, "that's a tumor".

Bad news, it's definitely cancer. Good news, her bloodwork came back OK, and she's eligible for surgery to get it removed!

Now I just gotta find a day to schedule it where I won't have to take too much time off work, we're in a blackout period because of the holidays so I have to minimize time off as much as possible. Also have to wait for her to finish a round of antibiotics she's on, so they'll have a new baseline of where she's at.
