We likely have different ideas of what a femme is. There are the basic "chapstick" lesbians who aren't femmes nor butches... they're just basic gay women who probably like other basic women lol

I think my girlfriend fits that type, although she calls herself a stemme because she's a tomboy who wears makeup, fake eyelashes, gets manicures, and does skincare for an hour every night before bed. But she looks gay because of how she dresses in t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers... and she loves wearing bandanas.

Yeah, chapsticks. I do think that describes me and basically most women, lesbians and not. Not masculine, but not barbie .A stem will wear dresses and high heels for occassion, but not all the time. Jeans and t-shirt is normal woman clothes though, not specifically lesbian. If that is lesbian, than most women are lesbians lol I definitely not into the high femme obsessed with look and makeup, but I think many men don't like that either. As they come off as boring and high-maintenance.

Nah, lesbians definitely carry themselves differently and set off the gaydar. This was so apparent with Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart and other closeted American actresses. A lesbian and straight woman can dress similarly but the difference in sexuality is absolutely noticeable!

Maybe, yeah, in many cases you right. I remember I figured out someone was a lesbian from a single pic, she was a normal looking pretty woman with long hair, yet from her gaze or position, I had an alarm off. Weird. But that would be a matter of behaviour, not style. I mean, jeans and t-shirt is normal woman everyday clothes, not something specifically lesbian or masculine.

Agree to disagree. Every lesbian has that masculine "dyke" energy that straight women simply do not possess unless they are repressed/closeted (which is usually the case with late bloomers who come out after having kids with men... it was always there, people noticed the masculinity).

Would you say every gay has a feminine faggot energy that straight men don't possess too? I've noticed the energy you talk about, something different which is difficult to describe. I don't like to call it masculine though. I don't know what to call it.

Although I don't pay much attention to men in general, I do think every gay man has a feminine "sissy" energy. I watch a big buff gay man on YouTube name Walter Lee Hamilton... and he is obviously gay. Lol

Yeah, I've seen muscular gay men and somehow they seemed less masculine than an average man, despite being extremely masculine in look. I guess the different energy about homosexuals is truly real and biological. I guess that's why they used to call us inverts lol

I don't know that I agree... some women who are gay (or bisexual) I find really hard to guess.

I think people might overestimate the number of women with "gay energy" because those women are just more noticeable. Availability heuristic and all that.

Would you says most USA lesbians belong to chapstick into chapstick category, while the super femme are more likely to be into butches?

[–]censorshipment 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Yes for the first. No for the second. The super femmes tend to be femmes4femmes.

But there are cities in the USA where somehow there is a high concentration of extremely femme lesbians obsessed with looks than in any others part of the country. Then I get it. I suppose in Italy that would be Milan. As there they are more fashion and look obsessed than in other part of the country. Surprsing the super femme are femmexfemme though. I've always expected that the more stereotypically feminine a woman is, the more she is searching for masculine role. But definitely, chapsticks for life lol

I think The L Word (original) is very accurate when it comes to American lesbians. And also that series Killing Eve. Power femmes are feminine on the outside and masculine on the inside... that's what other femmes prefer. Femmes date butches out of convenience... we're easier to spot and approach. No wondering if we're straight, bi or gay... and we likely won't reject you. Femmes fear rejection.

For masculine do you mean the top bs of today? Or just being courting and assertive in dating more giving, like usually man is expected in relationship? A passive femme would want that kind of femme, not all femmes obviously. I do hope most lesbians are in the middle and more into a balanced equal relationship though.

[–]censorshipment 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Assertive, yeah. I think passive femmes are bisexual... I don't think any real lesbian is passive unless she has self-esteem issues or something... but she'd naturally be assertive with a great lesbian life coach or mentor.

I don't know. Don't think being assertive or submissive has anything to do with your sexual orientation, especially in a sexual way. Although bi woman might fall more into the passive way, but just because they're used to man courting them and expect the same from women.
