First of all: LOL @ pinknews and their stunning journalism as always.

Secondly... call me a bad homosexual but I’ve never considered straight actors playing LGB roles to be an issue at all. It seems like a made up problem for keyboard warriors to rant on Twitter about. Literally who cares. I’d rather the movie be well-acted so that it’s actually enjoyable and so that mainstream/straight audiences would be interested in our stories than casting some shitty actor just because they’re gay and have the movie bomb.

Edit: also, focusing on the sexual orientations of actors in LGB roles is not only invasive and weird but also seems like a good way to out people against their will. I think Lee Pace was literally outed in a similar manner to this.

They'll stop at nothing these actors. They'll wear costumes and everything.

Watch out, next they'll be...acting!

I don't mind straight actors playing LGB roles, provided they're respectful and not a parody or broad strokes stereotype. For example, James Corden in that new musical about lesbians is a nightmare.

Also, from what I remember, Lee Pace was outed by Ian McKellen, which was coincidentally the moment I stopped respecting that man; just because you're comfortably and openly gay, Ian, doesn't mean others are.

Ian did what?

I haven’t respected Ian McKellen since he began demanding that gays support the T, but if he did that, he’s sunk a new low. Which is a shame, because he was a good actor in Lord of the Rings.

That was highly careless of Ian McKellen to do that.

ohh ok. maybe it was someone else then idk. honestly i get all these male celebs and their stories confused. i thought matt bomer and henry cavill were the same person for the longest time and thought the superman actor was gay because of it lmfao.

Trust me, if they had a gay guy playing Superman, we'd definitely hear about it for months.

It was the Flash, I think, but they stopped talking about it surprisingly quick when they realised no-one gave a shit about a gay actor playing the Flash.

I kinda wish they had cast Matt Bomer because I really like him and I might have actually watched it if they had. I like Cavill in the Witcher but hes supposed to not have any emotions anyway. It sucks how much Bomer's career has tanked since he came out.

I don’t care if a straight guy plays a gay character. It’s acting. Gay actors play straight characters all the time, so by the default, the other way around should be acceptable. Would it be nice if a handsome gay character was played by a gay actor? Yes. Would it be essential? No. In the end, it doesn’t matter that the actor’s orientation is, because you’re never going to have sex with him anyway. I don’t get why people worship celebrities. Yes, you can look up to them, but unless you’ve met them in person they should not be as relevant to your life as the real people in your life.

And no, I’m not going to give the series a try. Nothing against Ryan Murphy, but I’m not a fan of his work.

I don't think I've ever seen a respectful portrayal of LGB people from that man, especially if they're gay men.

Ryan Murphy's portrayal of gay men is jarring, considering that he himself is a gay man. Glee, for instance, has Kurt Hummel. Kurt fell in love with a straight guy and tried to convince this fella to go out with him, to the point of sexual harassment. And he’s supposed to be one of the good guys. Murphy defended the character's actions because "gay kids make mistakes". It wasn’t a mistake, most gay people don’t do that shit, and the show still acted like Kurt did nothing wrong until fans complained and then Murphy backtracked. This show did not portray gay characters in a good light.

American Horror Story is another Ryan Murphy show with bad gay portrayal. First season had a gay couple that fought because one was a control freak who wanted a baby as an accessory, and the other man grabbed a straight man's crotch. To be fair, the couple weren’t meant to be sympathetic. The second season had a lesbian as the main character, and her story arc was okay. The third season was about witches, so the main characters were women. For some reason, one of the members of the council was a camp gay man. For no reason. Look, I don’t care how effeminate a gay man is, he is still not a woman, so his role on that season made no sense to me. The fourth season was better with its portrayal of gay characters, but still not all that good. The first one was a villain, so I don’t mind how he’s portrayed. But the second gay character killed another character just to stay in the closet, instead of killing the character who was blackmailing him, so I didn’t like him. I don’t know about the other Ryan Murphy shows, though I’ve heard that The New Normal was bad. In fact, I don’t find Ryan Murphy a good writer. And his shows just aren’t my type.

Ryan Murphy, I think is a feminist, and really love to portrait strong women. Female stories are ok. Brittany and Santana were very important to me. Ratched was awesome. Sarah Paulson and Cynthia Nixon pretty nice couple.

More wannabe woke nonsense. I don't really care if straight actors play LGB roles. Would more LGB representation in hollywood be nice? Of course. But hollywood doesn't know how to do that yet without being cringey and reducing us all to stereotypes.

Like he said, if the movie was more focused on Halston's sexuality and the struggles he faced because of it then it would make more sense to have a gay actor in the role. But he's absolutely right that someone's sexuality is only one part of who you are. It's a core part, but it's not the whole thing.

Wait...I thought Ewan McGregor was gay?? Like for real?
Huh.

No, he was married and blew up his marriage by having an affair with a women who looks just like his wife except 20 years younger. It was super shady how he did it and how it all came out. He's divorced now. I off and on follow celeb gossip so I heard about this. I didn't think that much about him before but hearing about it all definitely made me think less of him.

I'm actually so fucking sick of hollywood elevating the same typical cis white straight male actors over minority demographics for big roles.

I just learned that the Xenomorphs in Aliens weren't played by real Xenomorph-kin. What the fuck???? I can't believe that in 2021 they're still marginalizing aspiring young actors this way. As if some white guy in a costume is better suited to terrorizing astronauts than a real authentic kin. I'm fucking shaking and crying and screaming and shitting my pants right now I can't even
