I just need to vent to you guys that I’m currently stuck in a webinar with Juno Dawson presenting. He’s going on about Stonewall and Mermaids are the reliable resources for “LGBTQ+” people and glorifying trans kids.

Dear god. People like this guy are what average people think LGB is. I can’t.

Who is Juno Dawson? I feel you on feeling so frustrated by people touting "LGBTQ+" organizations as appropriate resources for LGB people to reach out to, when really they are horrible, horrible representatives of us.

I feel it...I thought I was a lesbian for the longest time since grade school and when I was in my early teens, I wanted to transition to be "normal" aka, straight. Had pressure from religious family background to be "normal" and failed lol.

Just seems like this dude's going about it the wrong way and needs to get help.

Well, he is a man pretending to be a woman and is currently in a relationship with a man.

I think he once said he tried being gay, but then he realized he was truly a woman.

I don't know how he arrived at that conclusion.

He’s the author of This Book is Gay and, also, an asshole. He spent the entire panel session talking over other presenters, hyping Stonewall and Mermaids, and kept bemoaning how “queerphobic” the USA is. (Let me clarify this was supposed to be a presentation on children’s literature.) He also tied everything back to him being trans.

It went exactly how you imagine it went. Wine is happening as soon as I get home front the gym tonight.

Also, he took the time to lecture us all at the end how if women don’t accept transwomen they’ll “fracture the community and hurt everyone.” Apparently he’s writing a YA book about the topic. It’ll, of course, be about a coven challenging the patriarchy .

Lol, the community is fractured due to this shit already people like Dawson just don't want to admit it. Also its not up to women to carry the burden of the body and identity issues of the gender-special community.

No. I was signed in with my institution’s name. I’m going for a promotion right now. Causing a scene in a webinar in a major professional organization would screw me.

This is what’s so frustrating about the trans debate. They say no one is being silenced or bullied. But, if you question anything (even when it’s clearly negative to LGB people and women), it’s suddenly hate speech that can mess up your career.

(Trust me. I’m frustrated by my silence too.)
