Remember when people were actually arguing that refusing to say that "2 + 2 = 5 is sometimes true" was labelled transphobic?

Holy hell that tweet is somehow even more loaded than the whole "2 + 2 = 5 sometimes" thing.

Like the 2 + 2 = 5 thing has a "nugget" of truth to the deeper layers but like many shit takes on the internet it pretty much just goes off a very surface level interpretation and runs the hell with it. Short version of that shit take is more when it comes to floating point AND complex systems that change overtime I.E 2 people can become 3 people after mating so "1 + 1 -> 3" but many replace the -> with = which is a COLLASAL difference.

Actually that right there is the perfect example of much of this of reading a surface layer of a complex subject, making a small but vital mistake, and then just running with it as some bastion of truth and hoping that many won't be able to rush to properly correct and conversation around it will get flooded by shit takes.

They are too versed on doublethink to see the parallels.

Lol @ them saying Jordan Peterson is some hateful bigot who doesn't know anything about the communist manifesto, lmao. The man is a university professor at some of the best schools in the world - his youtube lectures show he knows his shit when it comes to the history of communism (especially in the past 100 years). And of course they say gender pronouns is about respect, but they call him "lobster man" and wish brain damage upon him. Yikes. Where's the tolerance they constantly lobby for?

Also, if they can't see the parallels between compelled speech and what happens in 1984, then I don't know what to say... You'd think they'd understand considering their propensity for embracing abstract concepts. On the other hand, they're so obsessed with language and words that it makes sense that if something's not spelled out for them word for word then it doesn't exist.
