Good: Separate intimate spaces based on super special, indefinable inner feelings.

I'm going to call my eyes, ears. Not all ears are hearing organs, sometimes ears are the seeing organs! Anyway, some people are deaf so not all ears can hear. Can anyone come up with a definition of "ears" that includes all hearing organs and excludes all seeing organs? I'm so oppressed for having to continually spend my emotional labor explaining this simple concept!

Fucking THIS. This "women are allowed to cry, men aren't" is such bullshit. We aren't taken seriously when we cry, we are "over emotional" and "hysterical." I mean, sure, I guess little boys are told to "man up" when they cry, but that's about it. The entire world takes men's emotions more seriously than women. After all, look at that sad rapist. He feels bad for getting caught making a mistake! Let's not ruin the poor man's life!

I'm a crier. I can't help it. My mother would spank me if cried about something she deemed "unimportant" and it didn't make me less of a crier as I got older. It just ramps up my anxiety when I feel tears coming on now and I cry harder because I get more upset by the fact that I am crying.

Woke circles use oppression points like currency. It's no wonder they want to try to cheat the system as much as possible.

Definitely could use some more empathy. The ability to say "your situation and my situation are different and we have different needs" is missing from so many of these people's mindsets. It's like they think their feelings and experiences are universal. Spoon theory was also my first thought. I had only heard it from people who use it when talking about mental health for so long before I found out that it was a concept for disabled people. "Trigger" has gone through a similar process as it was specifically a PTSD term before it became a word for "generic thing that makes me uncomfortable."

I am so uncomfortable with how much those circles promote self-diagnosis for mental disorders, for this very reason. Many mental illnesses are normal thought processes taken to the extreme. That's why so many people can read a list of vague symptoms and think "Oh, that's me!" in the same way you can read any random horoscope and feel the same way.

It seems very related to how they don't appreciate the need for clear language. They only use language to express their subjective experience. If men can be women, then "spoons" can apply to any mental illness you want. If penises are female, then getting bored sometimes can be ADHD.

Like, I don't want trans people to die or have less rights for however they want to express their gender. But really, I want to nothing them. I want them to fuck off and leave us alone. Maybe I could have extended some energy to them if they actually were allies for women's causes. But since they actively are fighting against what I am most passionate about, then idc what they do.

I don't even believe men "playing" with the things women are expected to do by society is innocuous. It could be, in a vacuum. Maybe it will be in a post-gender role world. But for an example, the cosmetic industry makes its money by encouraging women to be ornamental, many times to the point of damaging their health. Men "playing" with make up supports the practice without any of the real harm that it places on women. I'd rather focus on normalizing women to be free to be natural and not needing to be pretty for men, before supporting men's freedom to play with their gender.

Once I asked how was I supposed to teach my 4 year old about what "women" and "men" are so they can make an informed decision as to whether they are a woman or a man. Like, ELI4 what a woman is. (Because, I only want the best for my daug...uh... pre-gender indentified child).

I basically got told to ask her what she felt like and affirm it. But how can she make that decision without knowing what they are? Oh no, I was being deliberately obtuse and woman and man can mean whatever it you want it to mean. 🙄

I've been over the peak for a while, but since this is a new space I'll share.

The Women's March and the pussy hats.

I'll say I was never very TRAish. Discrimination in medicine and pregnancy/motherhood have always been my pet causes within feminism and it's hard to separate that from biology. But I did think that trans people were this small, niche group of mentally ill people who were just trying to get by. And even when I did see some nonsense about how "TWs are biologically female" I assumed it was some dumb Tumblr teen thing and I figured they'd grow out of it. Because it is just insane! It's so obviously not true I didn't register it as a threat. Maybe I was always "peaked" just unenlightened about the depth of the whole movement. From the first time I heard a story about a man knowing he was a woman because he played with Barbies I couldn't shake the feeling of sexism, but again, mental illness isn't rational and anyway it's not like other men aren't sexist. Anyway...

/2016. A disgusting, oafish, idiot misogynistic narcissist was elected the president over a woman (feelings about her aside, there was a lot of emotion about the first woman president at the time). It was bleak times. Women were angry. Enter the Women's March. I was a little cynical about it at first if I'm honest, but then I saw the waves of pink worldwide. For the first time, women were coming together to celebrate being women. It was pretty touching. Especially because of how depressed I was about the election. But look, here are the women of the world coming together to remind everyone we are here and we have power. "Pussy hats" because of the words of the actual elected president.

Yeah, that couldn't last though. No one wants to see women showing how powerful they are. So all of my "women-friendly" hobby groups started drawing lines in the sand. Pussy hats were transphobic. Talking about abortion or periods in regards to women was transphobic. What? WHAT? Obviously the "pussy" comment was about women? Trump wasn't talking about grabbing TIMs by the girldick? And wait, girl dick? You don't even need to medically transition or even want to transition to be trans? Lesbians are bigots for being lesbians? What is happening? You don't even need to BE DYSPHORIC? Being "cis" is a privilege. You are trying to CALL ME PRIVILEGED for being FEMALE? Kids know their GENDER AT AGE 3? PUBERTY BLOCKERS?

I finally decided to Google "TERF" because of how many people saying completely reasonable things being called out as one. I finally found where all the sane feminists went and haven't looked back.

[–]Lemonade_Masquerade 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have anxiety about my natural legs. I don't really -care- if anyone notices, but I guess that's what makes anxiety irrational. Honestly, the best thing to help get me over my initial fears was having a daughter and being really motivated to let her see hairy legs as normal and okay. Thick, black, sasquatchesque hair, too. Beaches and swimming pools were easy for me. Shopping was harder. And I still wear pants when visiting family, which has been the hardest for me. (Pre-pandemic, of course. Right now I'm just settled in for perpetual lock down)

I just hate that I know people see it as not just weird or unusual, but disgusting and dirty.

How can liberal feminists argue that sexism exists if they deny biological sex exists? by [deleted] in GenderCritical

[–]Lemonade_Masquerade 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly. And because it's -femininity- that's oppressed, not females, it's obvious how TIMs can use that to their advantage. It's funny, because they always talk about femininity in a way that's more closely related to homophobia than misogyny. "I was always discriminated against for wearing make up!" That's a male thing. Women are pushed -into- make up etc not for doing it. It is devalued because it's seen as feminine, but it's not the same experience.

It also works in their favor because it's easy to paint radical feminists as just as discriminatory for our anti-femininity views. They're individualists, and none of them seem to be able to tell the difference between a criticism of a system and a personal attack. So "I think choices are not made in a vacuum. I think that society has an influence on our decisions and our decisions have an impact on society" gets the response "Why are you shaming me right now?" It's not the things themselves, it's always us. Men liking a feminine thing won't make it accepted. It'll just be seen as something for men. Computer programming is a great example. Or it'll be like cooking, expected by women at home but high paying chefs tend to be men. In the art world, women do crafts, men make art. The only continuous thread is that if it is associated with women, it's less important. After all, if women can do it, then it must be easy. It's unimpressive.

So RIP the Subreddit that saved me from being trans. by blahblahgcer in GenderCritical
