There's a difference between people who are not religious and those who are terrified of religion and want to suppress it.

I'm an atheist but if I had kids they would read the bible and koran, that's how atheist reproduce.

This sort of thing is more in the mind of the religious extremist. It's like an extreme charactachure of an atheist. I'm sure you'll find some few unhinged people like this. But well, this is really just projection, since this is typically the extremist example to finding "unholy" books movies etc. Here the juxtaposition of the bible in place of something extremist christians hate with a clearly immoral atheist stereotype is supposed to be funny because it is essentially a roll swap. The extremists won't realize it's projection since it feeds their persecution complex well.

I can rememeber similar experiences with family as a child. Though replace the bible with harry Potter, or the Koran.

As ice always said if you are confident your position and ideals are correct. You have no need to suppress countering ideals. Since you don't need to worry about them being more convincing than your position. I think a lot of stupid people just can't understand why things cults say are wrong so they fear them. They understand that they easily trap stupid people like them but they can't manage to make a good argument against them. So they resort to insults and direct hostility.

Cultists will respond similarly when you confront them with your reasons for not joining their cult. JW are among the worst they love trying to bring their kids along for the cute family angle but you can watch them begin to find excuses to leave when you stay out of the religious side and simply argue with their practical issues, namely the insidious way in which they socially isolate their members to prevent them from leaving. And how the pyramidal structure of their organization is specifically designed to keep them stupid and reliant on the cult for their entire social life so they can be exploited for money. They have a ready made answer for that accusation but you can see the kids don't buy it. Not really. That's why they'll demonize the so called "apostates" they fear them. They don't really think their message is stupid and foolish. If they did they'd not be afraid to hear it.

There isn't a movement of people terrified by the bible and wanting to suppress it. Book burners are fascists, not liberals.

If you think this meme has any merit whatsoever, see a psychiatrist.

You know you're required to read to Jewish kids the Hebrew Bible, on which the Old Testament is based. You must LOVE that.

It turns out that most jews are filthy atheists, so there will be no Torah reading.

But kids won't know if they are religious until they've had opportunities to read a bible or have been to temple or church.

If you want to know in advance, do this test:

Arrange a room so that the kid is at one end and at the other end there are three boxes. On each box put a Bible, a quarter, and a shot of whisky.

Ask the kid to walk up and take whichever item he or she likes. If the kid takes the bible, you have to provide bible readings, or Hebrew bible readings. If the kid takes the quarter, he or she will become a business person. If he or she drinks the whisky, they'll be drunken losers. If a kid grabs the bible, quarter and drinks the whisky, he or she will be a Catholic priest.

Pat yourself on the back, I think that might actually be a good idea

There's not a movement per se, no. Not yet at least.

But all it takes is a little time scrolling through social media and it's plain to see that a lot of people actively misunderstand and fear what it says. You're telling me you haven't seen anyone say something to the effect of, "Christians are usually the worst people I know"? I see this kind of sentiment quite often. I hate to play into the slippery slope paranoia but today's young people are building a palpable resentment to religion, and the day may come when it escalates.

Yeah no.

I've come across plenty of Americans online who are absolutely terrified of Christianity for no good reason and are completely sure all the world's problems would be solved by wiping it out.

I seriously doubt it's that bad for the people you've met. Studies show that the majority of Americans are tolerant of religion even if they don't believe in God or the church, temple, mosque, snakes, the Pope, supply side 'Christians' or whatever. Part of this is because Protestantism is still a significant undercurrent in American culture. Indeed that's one of the reasons Americans can't hear 'fuck' or see boobs on FCC-managed TV. And as noted in the Reddit link of my first comment, many who do not like the Bible have nonetheless read portions of it and would expect others to read some of it. For many people, the Bible is just a book.

Butt plugs LOL

I was checking out random Reddit subs a few days ago and r/buttplugs came up. Like, WTF can you even say about buttplugs?

[–]1Icemonkey[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I forget the name of the sub, but Reddit has one for used sex toys. Buttplugs included.
