I wonder how much money the artist made on this

"This is an art-installation piece being used to highlight the obscenity of 'hostile architecture'..."

i was homeless in tampa florida about six or eight years ago.. got stuck there for a month.. you are not allowed to just sit at a bus stop bench and chat with a friend or even sit alone.. if a few buses come by and you dont get on a bus, you will be talking with the police.. if you are homeless, do not let anyone see you sleeping, you had best hide when you sleep.. or the police will come..

and the synthetic weed is very available to the homeless people.. guys walk around the homeless facilities shouting "i got a bag of ones" which means that they have one dollar spice joints.

that spice or k2 or kush is said to produce a more hideous addiction than heroin.

I'm from there myself. Tough place to be homeless. I was voluntarily homeless after working for the Fucking World Trade Center for two plus years. Executive Staff. Sux. Was so wrecked by that, I moved out to Parker, Arizona and lived wild in a hammock for a few weeks, then an abandoned copper mine. Finally moved into a camper behind Jugs' Bar. Looking back, the outdoors living was great. But to try that in Tampa sounds awful.

Boohoo.

[–]Zapped 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Why were you homeless and stuck in Tampa? Assuming that was not what you wanted, what could have changed that?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Synthetic cannabis replacements are well-documented to have very destructive side effects and greatly reduced health benefits. Still, synthetic weed joints is news to me. And that addiction... Damn. So thanks for that info.

And why on Earth would anybody need SYNTHETIC weed? I mean, the stuff grows well enough on its own! Get angry, people. That's the only response to this system from hell.

The real fascinating thing about them when i think about them again is:

They seem to work the wrong way around. Did the inventor ever hear of a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_of_nails ?

It can be quite relaxing but i suppose its one only for advanced fakirs bc. the distance between the nails is quite high.

Here is some high-school physics for it : https://web.archive.org/web/20180927225358/http://phun.physics.virginia.edu/demos/nail_bed.html

[–]LarrySwinger2 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Oh, yes, that's ingenious. My childhood friend had a small box of nails. They should make a park bench of nails, only for the daring ones.

Free bench for gays!

[–]EVERYBODYPANIC 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You imply that this bench is located in a capitalist country. There are no capitalist countries.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, he's implying that the bench is inside a country that has a capitalist economic system, of which most countries are.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

How many? Plenty thanks, because of capitalism. Piss off commie.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

As if capitalism and communism were the only two systems that anybody ever imagined. Poor brainwashed sheeple, unable to think on their own, then calling other people names. Sigh.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

If you have anything better, feel free to write a manifesto.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Well you are misisng the entire spectrum of socialism in your dualist capitalism/communism false duality. There is also cooperative economic activity, which is neither communistic nor capitalistic.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Cooperative economic activity?? Please explain.

Also socialism are envisioned by the west is just ineffective and detrimental state support financed entirely by capitalism. It's not an economic model, it's just a leech on the success of capitalism.

Are you aware that the definition of "socialism" that you are using in order to say that is literally COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA? You are using an Orewllian Newspeak, communist-backed PsyOp to co-opt and destroy the meaning of the word "socialism" in order to conflate it with communism and thus render whole populations unable to think the full spectrum of socioeconomic thought? Did you read 1984?

Socialism is used IN EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY except THE COMMUNIST ONES. Among those, the least socialist nation is probably the USA and that's why it's a relatively shitty place to live. Needing to sell a lung in order to pay for your heart surgery is not a good system. Socialism means, among other things:

  • Laws against child labor;
  • Limited work hours;
  • Minimum wages;
  • Retirement plans;
  • Health plans;
  • State-regulated disability insurance;
  • Unemployment;
  • Social security;
  • Food stamps;
  • Free education;
  • Free healthcare;
  • Many other things;

Countries that are on the capitalist/socialist system are, among many others: the UK, Canada, France, Germany, all of scandinavia, and many many others. Even the USA is part of this, although it's close to the PURE SLAVERY end of the socialism spectrum.

The early socialists were anarchists and libertarians, and were in utter opposition to the drivel Marx spouted when he said utter nonsense such as "socialism is but a step leading towards communism". It's communist propaganda and in fact, socialists have always been utterly ANTI-COMMUNIST. The truest socialists, the national socialists, were eradicated by trying to stamp out communism. And most likely were warred upon by pretty much the entire world BECAUSE they were attempting that.

Socialism stands ABSOLUTELY opposed to communism. It is its antithesis.

We have a new s/cooperatives about the cooperative model. But it's basically a group of people associating together to create goods or services. A bit like a corporation, but without the revolting anti-human traits of corporations.

Marx himself called Communism "rational socialism" so get to fuck with that. Socialism is communism by the back door.

Like fuck is it. Get your head out of your arse.

Socialism means, among other things:

No, it doesn't.

on the capitalist/socialist system are

I note even you are incapable of separating the two. That's because social state spending is entirely dependant on capitalism.

although it's close to the PURE SLAVERY

Oh shut up you fucking cretin. Move out of your parents' shit-filled basement.

We have a new s/cooperatives about the cooperative model.

We have actually plenty of coops in the UK. Coop, Waitrose, union banks, etc. They are just shit, expensive companies.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, he did. That's why it's COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA which you are repeating. Marx was a commie, and you are using him as your reference for "truth". Are you a communist? Because, yet again, you are repeating COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA. They've gone on a very intense brainwashing campaign for about a century now, and most English-speaking people repeat these communist lies as if they were truth.

Socialism is a PHILOSOPHY OF GOVERNANCE, not an economic system. Capitalism and communism are economic systems. Socialism is a philosophy of governance that CANNOT BE USED along with any other economic system than the capitalist one. It is because of the very nature of capitalism, which is predatorial, that socialism is required. Socialism, the roots of which are in the works of anarchists and libertarians, means tilting the balance back from company owners to ordinary folk. Because it is a fact that if capitalism is left unchecked, the rich get richer and the rest get poorer. If you want that, have fun becoming a slave, because that is directly where it leads.

Oh shut up you fucking cretin. Move out of your parents' shit-filled basement.

Thank you for this. I am a >50 year old economist with a nice career behind me and many a millionaire created by myself using the stock market. But please do go on about how I am ignorant and inexperienced.

Yes, there may be "coops" in the UK, but they're CORPORATION cooperatives, not PURE cooperatives, huge difference.

The actual definition of socialism, absent COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA:

I. Definition

Socialism is an economic philosophy based on the need for regulations on capitalism. Unchecked capitalism, most economists agree, can create serious problems in the long term, since short-term personal profit does not motivate companies to take care of infrastructure, the environment, or their workers. Socialists emphasize this fact and argue that only the government can solve the problems created by capitalism. Other economic philosophies generally acknowledge the problem, but advocate other solutions to it, while only a few extremists deny that there is any problem with absolute capitalism.

Although many people think that socialism and capitalism are completely incompatible systems, the fact is that most developed nations operate on a combination of both. For example, nearly every major city in the developed world has some system of government-run public transportation, such as bus lines or a subway. There are also laws against child labor, unsafe workplaces, and reckless pollution, and government programs that help provide education, food, and healthcare to the poor. All of these are socialist ideas that exist in relative harmony with capitalist economies. Capitalism vs. socialism is a question of balance, not an “either/or” question.
