It's residual from the hunter-gatherer instinct of yore. The men were hunters, the women and children were gatherers, that being berry-pickers, vegetation harvesters and root diggers. Today, our society does not always turn boys (gatherers) into men (hunters). Some boys remain boys.

You're just realizing it? You must be young. I worked for government in the late 1970's in surveillance. Yes, way back then. Hated it and got the hell out. But for what it's worth, every digital device you own is on, even when it's off, and it's watching you and hears every sound in your house. And then there's the outdoor surveillance... but we don't need to go there, do we? Big Brother is watching you. For reasons.

All trans people and all gay people are that way because they are endlessly reliving a childhood sexual trauma. All of them. It's just like how returning war veterans seek out other returned war vets, having little in common with regular people anymore. We call it PTSD today, but it's the same thing. Mentally damaged people relive their traumas one way or the other. It's why teen girls who go astray remain that way into adulthood. Hard to break the loop once one becomes loopy.

The flaw with conservatives is that almost by definition, they with to preserve how it is or how it recently was. Functionally conservatives are vigorously trying to stop the slide into eventual socialism/communism. It has rarely been a successful strategy, but when successful, it tends to create a golden age.

Better than conservatism in my humble opinion, is human liberty. A system now called voluntaryism suits me best. Google it some time. But it is very unlikely, so off to socialism we go. It is already an oligarchy. America has never experienced real freedom, and it never will as it has few proponents and ittle underpinnings in popular literature. No water, no gasoline, no electricity, no food, no banking. Cellular service? Again, nope. Folks go to Niland, a few miles out of Slab City for these things.

My first visit, I was looking for an old man my aged mother-in-law grew up liking as teens. Fist folks I found were some teens around a campfire. All homeless. God knows what they ate and drank. Can imagine how the girls got by. But with their help, after a few crazy adventures, I did find old man Phil Koursch and got him to write and later to call my wife's mom. Among the teens, a very pretty blonde attached herself to me. I did not avail myself of the opportunity, but free people are not formal I guess. Maybe I just looked like a guy with a paycheck, I dunno.

Good times.

Been gone from this thread a couple of days. Hoping you are alright. Dealing with 'Internet Tough Guys' can take the wind out of many sails. But just keep in mind that we are all probably very far away from each other here. Other people only matter if you let them. I really do understand loneliness and only wish happiness for all thoughtful and kind people. You seem exactly like that to me. But I also appreciate that you do stand up for yourself against detractors. You live for your own happiness. When people put you down or make you feel uncomfortable, just walking away and ignoring them is a reasonable response. Some jerks just love to duke it out, but they are easily stung by indifference. And I do agree also that this pandemic thing makes socializing way harder. I wish you all the best.

And as I see it, social media has exposed us all to so many ideas and expressions that we all have a deck of pre-loaded comments. I'm a happily married guy in a small town. A good friend, age 25, is living with an older man but wishes for marriage. For happily ever after. I explained to her that she will probably never marry, as she is physically locked away at all hours from available men. Step one of marriage is to be available, and as long as she lives with a man, all other men politely shy away. So if she ever leaves him, she needs to proceed to step number two: Put herself out there. My daughter took up hiking wilderness trails. Another friend took up bowling and baseball. Daughter to be married in October, friend has options. Getting to pick and choose.

You are in a position to take step two, to get out there. Travel, and as the lockdowns ease up, go bowling, go to sports games, Ideally travel to Britain or Ireland (they love us over there).

But for you, Step Number One is gotta get your nose out of the books. Cannot meet people even in a park if your not looking available and interesting. Heck, take a Frisbee to a park and ask someone to throw it with you. Testosterone is a powerful drug and a mere nudge activates it. The more demure nudge is to get stuck/need rescue/need advice. Men only become knights in shining armor if you first become a damsel in distress. - But please, figure out what you'd like and go fishing. Speaking of fishing...

Wrong.

The core value of Capitalism is prosperity from production. You cannot eat what hasn't been produced, no matter how much paper money you have squirreled away. That we have all of these societal and economic problems is precisely because what we have today is NOT Capitalism. It is State controlled society and economy, and that is always wrong.

The lockdown is taking its toll on most of us. For the record, I've had diabetes for forty years and had quadruple by-pass surgery two years ago. But I am not depressed. I have a few very close friends and a routine. I do miss owning an appliance repair business for 20 years, as it put me in peoples' homes several ties each day. But oh well, life isn't really about machines anyway. Plus, in my free time, I study odd topics online, and have enjoyed reading thre ancient books of India. Just to do it I guess. So might I suggest you connect with people online who show interest in a topic of your choosing, then after the lockdown, take a course in pottery (done that ) or Lapidary (done that too.) and that lets you get out and meet real people who will be fun and interesting and who can enhance your life. The purpose of life is to pursue happiness. Now go and live it!

[–]EVERYBODYPANIC 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

My 'adopted' daughter felt like this. All of her friends were just a mess and many were mean. I told her to go online and to banish the worst offender very publicly at midnight. That 'friend' and a few other snotty ones just trashed my girl, but she didn't yield. By 10pm, the doomed one changed her tune, even apologized but my girl would not budge and at midnight, banned her from all access. Next morning, many people cheered her for her strength. I told her to now pick whoever was worst of the rest of them and do the same thing every two days for 10 days. It was wonderful. Before the ten days passed, all the remaining 'friends' now her champions, came unannounced to her door and begged to not be banished. She said the only rule from now on is: NO MEAN PEOPLE. Don't be mean to her plus don't ever say or post anything mean about anybody ever again. And it worked! Soon, all her mean, loser friends started turning their lives around. Finishing school getting married, all that. My girl was so happy.

But then (and I'd foretold it plainly to her), nature abhors a vacuum, and that every banished person left an empty slot in her time and that each bad one gone would be replaced with a good one. And it happened. Today, her closest friends are genuine, she's planning a wedding with a wonderful young man, and all is right with the world.

So consider this. If you banish someone who is not really a true friend, and do it publicly, suddenly all the rest will wake up. The good ones will rally and the lackluster ones will bad-mouth you. Hee hee... you know what to do

Mexico is also good if you stay way from the tourist traps, American communities and the borders. My uncle married a real Mexican and lived among them. Took guitar lessons thee and learned to play and sing all the popular traditional ballads. He loved Mexico and Mexico loved him. So if you ever do move to either country, do something to get noticed and welcomed. Joining a church in either place is fine. Mosques? Maybe might bring suspicion on yourself.

Best revolution success would be to create alternative communities which interact privately unto themselves. As the old system devolves, good people will flock to the stable options. No shots need to be fired for a victory.

Recall that in China, videos kept emerging of people falling dead in the streets; people in hospital beds were convulsing like being demonic possessed? Two months later - POOF!* China opened back up. Magic.

China completely controls its media and internet. These videos that leaked out were stater propaganda. Nothing else. And it worked.

Show me the dead bodies in our streets, or in any streets in the world! Show me the convulsion videos outside of China! It's all bullshit.

China did this to clamp down on Hong Kong protests and Uighur minority unrest. Added bonus was to crash the western economies out of fear. Win win win for China.

Was so wrecked by that, I moved out to Parker, Arizona and lived wild in a hammock for a few weeks, then an abandoned copper mine. Finally moved into a camper behind Jugs' Bar. Jury nullification is one of the most fundamental rights you have. But they won't let you hear about it. Every free man has the RIGHT to sit on a jury and say NOT GUILTY because the law ITSELF is a corrupt law. Yes that is YOUR RIGHT. by Jesus in politics

Wonderful to see people wanting to do this. Must be subtle and clever about it, for any hints of wanting JN gets you eliminated up front. But if done well, one silently gets to differ with other jurors once the time comes and help guide weak minds or at least hang a jury. Basically, if nobody gets hurt by another, where's the crime? Nothing overthrows bad laws like JN. And DA's hate to lose, so if prosecuting somebody for doing XYZ goes bad in court, they tend to shy away from bothering. It's why marijuana is being legalized... juries won't convict!

Unschooling by [deleted] in aaronswartz

[–]EVERYBODYPANIC 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good point. The poetic reciters learn many thing, but intentionally avoid learning to read and write. They surely have jobs and raise families. So far as my studies indicate, none of the reciters for thousands of years were literate.

I brought this aside forward to indicate that things we believe about educational needs may not explain it all. Now, what you describe above is homeschooling and tutoring. Gentler versions of regular education. Unschooling really means what it says. Kids learn what seems important to them at the time and in ways which they themselves choose. Unless we 'school their minds to mush', kids love learning everything and if allowed, would come to adults with questions. Unschooling does include adult input as requested. Reading, writing, math and world studies would be gobbled up by a mind filled with wonder.
