Regarding making these changes "for user safety":

I trust an open source browser extension by a well-known author who has a proven track record of behaving and delivering a quality product about ten thousand times more than I would ever trust scripts from random ads online which tell me how to make my penis five times longer.

Yeah definitely. I love the doublespeak they use. "we're cutting off your penis with this new update so you can have a better, safer experience"

A bunch of ad blockers will still exist for Chrome....they will just work around this by send info about all your browsing to the cloud to do the filtering.

You won't realize the difference, but the ad blocking companies will get rich collecting and selling your every web usage, while easily saying they don't collect your data....it's just some side part of their service that sells what they collect incidentally for security and performance analysis purposes only. Not only that, but the cloud will collect your data and their intermediates. 12 new companies will get a chance to scrape at least meta data from your browsing.

This Google move is like a CIA concocted plan. It pretends to make you safer and kind of does, but incidentally pushes you to....technically willingly...give away all your privacy. It is the perfect trap with built in plausible deniability and a deceptive tongue-in-cheek ethical high-point.
