Why not? Why pretend anyone in the corporate or government sector gives any fucks about individual privacy then fears for votes or profit? If you are deploying a fucking surveillance robot at a subway station why are you limiting it's functionally? It's a fucking spy bot in the subway, I think your statement on privacy is being rolled out pretty blatantly.

So fuck it, record audio, recognize faces. Jihadists planning their next 9/11 in front of the rolling pyramid that'd good for America. I know I'll feel safer if facial recognition gets another wanted man off the streets. Maybe they can do the felony arrest right there on the train so everyone can applaud the storm troopers when they descend. Assault rifles pointed in my face be damned that's the government keeping us safe.

Besides, you know all the shit that they so specifically tell us won't be used, just means it's there ready to be. Behind an IAP upgrade and doubt that unlock will make headlines quite the same.

Mostly be special projects and kickback money and the like. I think the main purpose is highly visible PR for the cops. "Hey look at how well we are spending your tax money to keep you safe" even though these are essentially just super expensive roombas.

I give it about a month before randos start tipping them for fun.
