Best possible outcome in this situation really, their deaths were swift. At most they heard an ominous noise before structural failure let the ocean in and the pressure jellied everyone on board.

The alternative would be slowly freezing or suffocating to death.

Reminds me of Das Boot when they're descending beyond breaking point to evade radar detection and you hear the hull creaking. Great film.

What about their bones? Dumb question but like, outside of breaking, they can't just become 'jelly'.

I don't know how the bones will fare, but their fleshy bits certainly got squished by all that pressure.

Yeah, fish food. I guess I was hoping for some of the harder parts/remains to be recovered.

What was that ominous noise anyway?

Guess he shoulda hired one of those 50 something year old white guys to help design and build the sub.

Fantastic lesson in arrogance and hubris. I’m just sorry he had passengers with him.

The first documented case of someone being so fucking woke it literally kills them and leaves their body in the bottom of the ocean

I liked the part where supposedly he had the voice communication removed because "it was annoying to have the surface call and bother me"

Not that it matters in the case of an implosion but it does reveal his whole attitude towards the situation.

Do there wasn't any SOS tapping.

Whoever came up with that lie needs to be routed out. Won't happen though.

I've assumed that an implosion would be the most likely outcome from the beginning. Once some of the details started to come out about it.

Apparently the porthole window plastic is rated to 1000m depth or something like that. Titanic is about 3000m down. Sounds like they were cutting corners.

It will be interesting now to see what the ultimate point of failure was. I suspect it was the hull myself since it seems the submersible has split in two fairly early into its descent. Likely the hull was stressed on the last test dive.

What was that banging anyway?

Jo momma

I think it's pretty awesome that the titanic has claimed more victims more than a century after it sank. People going to tourist at a mass grave in an inhumanly hostile environment that is literally hellish have now joined the dead.

Only leftists could achieve such an amazing magic feat.

Petty jealousy. These people who hate billionaires are fags. They contribute little (to nothing) to society but you damn well know they wish they had the wealth to be able to spend 250k however they wanted.

The woke CEO who was responsible for that cheap and shoddily constructed deathtrap was inside it as well, so one of them at least got exactly what they deserved.

      [–]Dontcaretoday 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That's true. Not wanting to hire 50 year old white men because it's not inspiring was an idiotic move on top of being racist. Bragging about not hiring the most experienced people he could find should have been a red flag for the rest of them, as if the video game controls weren't enough already. Being as dumb as they were rich just doesn't necessarily mean they were awful people also, especially the kid

      [–]Alienhunter 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The video game controller doesn't bother me so much as the fact it was wireless.

Like if I had to jerry rig a submarine, game controller isn't the worst idea. But if it's wireless like what do you do if batteries go out or the Bluetooth refuses to pair. It's not like you can just go out and buy another one when you are 3000 meters under the sea.

      [–]Newmug 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yea. Being arrogant is not deserving of a crush / drown / minced death, no matter how woke you are.

      [–]IMissPorn 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well I'd say the pilot and CEO of OceanGate did kinda deserve it. From the bits and pieces we've heard he, must have known the thing wasn't very safe, and he still risked other people's lives along with his own. I don't know what anyone has against the passengers though, aside from just hating rich people.

      [–]Alienhunter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

He seems like a right idiot to me though I'd still not say he deserves death. But he did dig his own grave.

I heard he had fired some big wig in his company years ago for essentially raising a bunch of safety concern with this plan that would have sank the endeavor. Forget the woke angle here, I think he's just hiring young and inexperienced types because he's more likely to get yes men.

Where a 50 year old experienced submariner might well tell him to shove it.

      [–]Dontcaretoday 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it makes it better that he went on it also, since that implies that maybe he actually believed himself that it was fine and he wasn't just knowingly endangering people for profit. He's still at fault either way though. It's their job to make sure they are taking every precaution and hiring experienced people, then actually listening to those people. The only fault from the passengers far as I can tell is that they trusted OceanGate was a responsible company

A surprising amout of tech experts on this site who precisely know already why this accident happened and who's guilty of it.

      [–]jet199 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I mean there's pretty much only one option.
