Imagining Nema's confused naive expression when he realizes that politicians engage in politicking.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

I am not concerned that he changed his mind and realized Mexico would not write him a one-time check. I am concerned that he is saying he never said they would.

Here's a Nema approved source defending Obama's penchant for this favorite presidential activity:

https://www.cnn.com/2013/11/24/politics/presidents-lie/index.html

Maybe it'll help you to deal with this.

It is good we agree President Trump is lying.

[–]Zahn 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

It's all just political theatre.

You give Colin’s a bad name.

This isn't news, and (democrat) Tim Pool explained it: "he meant to let them pay economically".
But the press mixes up literal and figurative speech.

It is bullshit news like this that we never get to discuss real issues.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (8 children)

No. He lied. It is in the second and sixth paragraph. I bolded the sixth paragraph for you.

Mr Trump’s website for his 2016 campaign had previously stated that the border country would make a “one-time payment of “$5-$10 billion”.

[–]zyxzevn 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Via economic sanctions maybe? Or trade deals?
There is so much details missing. Not that anyone really cares..

[–]Nemacolin[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

His website said the Mexicans would write a one-time check. He clearly said that. Now he said he never said it. He is lying. I care about lying.

[–]shadow_wolf7 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

His campaign website said it not Trump so hes not lying.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

So you sort of figure the Trump Campaign is not controlled by President Trump? It is almost as if you are clutching at straws.

[–]shadow_wolf7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

site was controlled by candidate Trump and his campaign, I view a campaign site as a rough draft of ideas to accomplish the candidates main goals, even more so with Trump since he had no political experience. Youre basically pointing at a rough draft and calling him a liar after he changed up his strategy, also its funny how none of his supporters are complaining only libtards. We spend billions on illegal aliens every year if we stop just a small portion of that the wall will pay for itself so no one cares if Mexico pays for it directly

[–]Nemacolin[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

No. There is no reason to be upset that he was unable to make the Mexicans write him a check. There is no reason to be upset that he changed his mind.

The concern is that he is claiming he never said what he said. That is weirdly delusional.

[–]beermeem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You’re weirdly delusional.

[–]zyxzevn 7 insightful - 4 fun7 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 4 fun -  (6 children)

[–]FormosaOolong 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

Both. There is systemic lying and gaslighting coming from both those directions, and more.

[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 6 fun4 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 6 fun -  (4 children)

I don't know why everyone is so upset.

He'll just quietly build the wall during his last days in office - just like how Obama shut down GitMo.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I am not upset. I am pointing out how delusional it is for the President to say he never said the things he said. Doesn't he know we wrote down what he said? Doesn't he know we have video?

[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I was trying to be sarcastic.

Obama perpetually promised but never closed GitMo.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes. But he did not promise to do it, and then say he never promised it.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah. Indeed. So it's twice as bad in your eyes? Did you ever actually believe him?

[–]Nemacolin[S] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Right into the Orwellian memory hole.

Donald Trump has claimed that, despite his repeated promises that Mexico would pay for a wall on US southern border, he “obviously never meant Mexico would write a cheque”.

Mr Trump’s website for his 2016 campaign had previously stated that the border country would make a “one-time payment of “$5-$10 billion”.

Instead, the president most recently claimed that Mexico would pay for the wall through changes to trade policy his administration has negotiated to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement. That new deal, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), has not been approved by congress yet but the president said on Thursday that it ”probably will be”.

The USMCA will mean Mexico will be “paying for wall indirectly, many, many times over”, Mr Trump said on Thursday. He then boarded Air Force One to fly to McAllen, Texas, where he hopes to drum up support for congressional approval for US taxpayer funding to build the wall.

The 2016 promise that Mexico would directly pay for the wall was also included in a “pay for the wall” memo Mr Trump’s team issued early that year that proposed pressuring Mexico by cutting off remittances sent from undocumented Mexicans in the United States. It proposed amending the Patriot Act, passed after the 9/11 attacks.

“It’s an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion [in remittances] continues to flow into their country year after year,” the memo said. “We have the leverage, so Mexico will back down,” it said.

I don't think he meant to limit immigration in any sense of the word.

Which is one of the main reasons that he hasn't done anything about a wall or immigration since he's been in office.

But this is what The people who voted for him wanted, and that's what they're getting. Bigger government, nothing done about immigration, more omnibus spending bills after "I'll never sign another one of those...".

I'm actually shocked he hasn't given Amnesty to DACA people. But I'm going to assume when they vote him in a second time, that'll be his signature defining cause for his last term.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

I do not care about his wall. I care that he is lying.

[–]jamesK_3rd 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

So you don't really care about the problem, you're just anti Trump.? They all lie they're politicians. That's no excuse, however I'd be less concerned about his lying and more concerned about the actual problems. I'm hoping you we're equally concerned with the following doozies.

  • if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor : these were orchestrated attacks because of an anti Islam video : my FBI is highly ethical, they'd never abuse FISA
  • i had to suspend the free market to save the free market : Iraq has WMD
  • i didn't have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky
  • read my lips, no new taxes ...

[–]Nemacolin[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I am glad we agree that President Trump said he wanted Mexico write a check to pay for the wall. This means we also agree he is lying when he claim he never said such a thing.

[–]Zahn 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You seem a little obsessed with this and indignant. When he said they'd write a check for it, I took it more figuratively. I mean, Mexico doesn't pay for anything, so it never made any sense. I got pretty worked up,like you, when Obama first started lying....and after several months, no one cared or remembered. Like I posted, CNN even made excuses for it. I couldn't believe it. That's when I started to see politics more clearly..correctly and intelligently. I think you're a smart guy, if you just start reading between the lines more, everything will gradually start to make more sense.

[–]jamesK_3rd 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Trump didn't just start lying. He lied on his tv show for years. He has lied to his wives, ex wives, and random women for years. He's been lying for a long time. This isn't new.. I'm not sure how the wall has you so worked up, or is this a TDS thing..

I mean, far worse than the wall is Paula White is trump's "spiritual advisor", a known Christian heretic and someone who actually takes advantage of desperate people by telling them God will taste care of them if they donate too her.

That says far more about Trump than his lying about immigration policies.

[–]beermeem 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

I don’t care what he does. I just want the wall.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well, that would sort of mean you do care what he does. You probably meant to say you do not care what he says.

Thanks.

I am not for or against Trump. I totally agree with you about the lies. The other guys also have a point about previous POTUS lies. Sadly, the other guys seem unwilling or unable to present a coherent argument for their blind adoration of their god Donnie. They resort to ad hominem attacks like petulant children. Shall we ignore them?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

From the beginning it seemed to me it was obvious Mexico wouldn't pay and that Trump was planning on using it as a justification to implement trade tariffs, thus getting as excuse to back away or renegotiate NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) something he always had expressed a dislike for as being "unfair deal" to muricans.

It all seemed obvious, the fact that some people miss the obvious and grasp at anything that confirms "orange man bad" is quite telling.

[–]Nemacolin[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

He promised he would do something. I am not concerned that he did not do it. Real life is like that. I am concerned he is claiming he never made the promise. That is a lie.

Chronic liars lie first to themselves, to protect their ego construct. (Which is fragile, despite the appearance of massive arrogance and pomp.) So any time a shred of truth disrupts their storyline, they first re-weave the foundational fabric of their lie to themselves, within the context of their own weird internal lie. When it sounds good, and credible, and supportive of their bloated sense of self, they start repeating that lie to others, to substantiate it. It's like PR for their ego, and the more people that believe it, the more they believe it. In this way they start to forget things, like, say, oh yeah they're the effing president of the US and most everything they say and do is on public record.

But the years of getting away with re-writing their personal history makes them delusional in the way I think Nema might be trying to point to here--in that they have some unconscious magical thinking wherein if they repeat the lie enough, everyone will believe it, and it will become the new truth, and they will maintain their glory.

Trump is just a very unsophisticated example of this specific narcissistic trait. Most of the people in high places are getting away with this exact process on a much more successful and less transparent level. It's my hope that we're in a phase of our collective evolution where they are all being exposed, and the whole rotten fabric will disintegrate before our very eyes, and we can make a nice new cloth that is not itchy, moth-eaten, and malodorous.

Oddly enough, that is not what the OP is about. The President said Mexico would write a large one-time check to build it. There is no problem that he was unable to get them to do that. The problem is he is now saying he never said the Mexicans would pay for it.

He is lying to you.
