Britain helped create Israel and even supported them in their first invasion of Egypt, genocided the Boers in South Africa and created the first concentration camps, they declared war on Nazi Germany despite the Soviets being a bigger threat, they also bombed France during WW2 when they signed an armistice with Germany.

They weren't just looking to add pieces to their puzzle like other Empires, they were heavily political as well.

Edit: They also lead the fight against Apartheid and Rhodesia, playing a huge role in blockading their oil imports. Contrast this with the Portuguese Empire who saw other Whites in Africa as their allies.
