I don't agree with this. I understand banning memes or stupid links but various articles or tweets themselves give rise to discussion of the topic in the comments.

It was a rule we had already since reddit, and the reminder was prompted by this

We disabled link-posting a long time ago because people would just spam a link and abandon the thread which kills forums. Then people started just doing it like this, notice how the thread has 0 comments and the OP himself didn't even write a single word regarding the content?
