Identity is often based on environmental circumstances and the size and type of adversaries a group faces. A tribe would think it is ridiculous to ally with rival tribes until they face a more foreign threat like a nation outside of their geographic region that is stronger and more powerful than a single solitary tribe. Whiteness is just the next step in identity in a environment with world ending weapons and economies that are interconnected. If all European nations form a wider European identity that is inclusive of their ethnic identity it will strengthen their survival at a small cost in exchange with a identity that protects their people instead of destroys it like the neoliberal Jewish empire.
