I feel so bad for these people. If people were just honest with them and told them no you don't, sure it would sting but they could get over it.

It's the fact people feed into their delusion that really fucks them up. This is why the suicide rate only goes up after surgery, and why the suicide rate appears to be climbing as we get more embracing.

But ignore the empirical and statistical evidence right? Just "trust the science"?

Being nice in order to not hurt a person's feelings in the short term, and contributing to ruining their whole life in the long term, has got to be one of the most common social occurrences these days. People need to just grow some fucking ovaries/testicles and be honest once in a while. It's an underappreciated skill.

Honestly at the risk of sounding misogynistic, I think this comes largely down to the inclusion of women in politics and upper echelons of society.

This is a trait that is far more common in women and I think a big part of the reason why single mother children tend not to fair as well. Men tend to be far more comfortable with telling eachother unpleasant truths and same goes for their children. Men are far less worried about being the bad guy when it's for the greater good. The closest women get to this is usually being a "mean bitch" however this is usually done only for personal gain not to be helpful to the person they are doing it to.
