Why are the active attacks from China to the US so relatively low?

I noticed the same thing, and the US is the absolute worst abuser.

Does this represent zombie computers? Maybe the attacks never get traced back to their home countries. Would explain both lack of Chinese attacks and how many "originate" from the U.S.

I also find it curious that Israel is missing from the chart entirely. Surely that can't be accurate.

Keep in mind that this only shows traffic, not who's actually responsible necessarily. For example the US has a ton of computers, both consumer and infrastructure, so it's no surprise it's the biggest source and destination of attacks.

Why would you imagine they should be higher? Most cyber attacks originate in the USA, in both senses of the word:

  • the botnets, hijacked computers, devices and services are based in the US;
  • and the attack was originated by bad actors in the US (mostly three-letter agencies).
