Whether it's made public or not, that's useful!

There's been times I would have liked to reference what I've upvoted.

Just ask questions, either in public, or in private. Some people prefer to remain anonymous on this anonymous forum.

I did not know about that but now have unchecked "make votes public." Thanks.

      privacy options:

      make my votes public: ☐

don’t allow search engines to index my user profile: ☑️

I’m assuming you pm’d everyone about hot steamy sex? If you wanna know what I’ve upvoted (as well as would like me to index my acc) you’re gonna have to beat me up first.

It’s ok, I’m half kidding with you & tbh I’ve said “subreddit” instead of “subsaidit” in the past too. But nah, if I don’t have to give up my privacy I don’t.

Giving up privacy, personal freedoms and liberties for unnecessary comfort/luxuries (what you’re suggesting), security or safety has pretty much always yielded bad results on the end for participants.

If this becomes a thing I hope you guys have fun looking at what each other is up voting lol. I remember when people were scared of the white owl social club because they were afraid it was made by a user attempting to collect data on their interests or dislikes.

          Thanks for the invitation.

I am surprised that there is an option to allow search engines to index my profile. Perhaps /u/d3rr could remove that option?

Anyone know if Reddit does this automatically?

          [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

Yes, I believe reddit does automatically. Iirc, I remember going through reddit preferences and ticking a bunch of privacy boxes on/off I didn’t agree with. It only takes a few seconds to check.

I know reddit also takes data from your account automatically too unless you tick a box.

          [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Interesting. So I've now bothered to look and indeed, Reddit offers the following controls. This reminds me that they're also giving a government-connected Chinese company (as part owner) this stuff:

[ ] make my votes public

[ ] allow my data to be used for research purposes

[x] don't allow search engines to index my user profile

[ ] allow reddit to log my outbound clicks for personalization

[ ] let others see my online status

This is one reason I did not renew my premium account years ago, as there reports that the special service also tracked all of my browing history

          [–]Node 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

They'll still track you for free, even without paying the premium.

          [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Nothing is free - the price: freedom.

Uncheck it if you don't like it

          [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Can there be a guarantee that Saidit will not benefit financially from the sale of user data?

          [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You'll have to ask SaidIt. In my opinion, your data isn't worth shit and it would be colossally dumb of the SaidIt owners/admins to do so.

This flag in the preferences doesn't mean shit, it just tells search engines to ignore the page. Lots of them don't care and do it anyway.

the admin /u/theameliamay is with you on that one. He regularly purges his content to prevent evidence being used against him. Although I archive it regularly, because I'm looking forward to the apology he'll need to give me when he's running for political positions, as trannies always do.

You would likely have a better experience of being human if you did. But where you live in real life would play a large role. I live by the sea in CA and 98% of people here wear the mask outside, so it's kind of like zombieville out there.

              [–]bobbobbybob 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I suppose I should just complete the purging of social media from my life and concentrate on being a more complete person in the real world.

good luck. I tried. this is my only 'social' media left, and my identity is well obfuscated. But, when I try, i find that the real world is full of people whose identity, thought and beliefs are dictated by mass media. Literally cannot have a conversation that isn't full of the BS language i see on the newsfeed

Have you checked the "make my votes public" option on your user preferences page? This may be why that /downvoted page is visible. I notice that same page is not visible for any other user profiles but yours, so that is probably the reason

                  [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Well, Saidit is a younger Reddit's clone put through a series of experimental modifications by people who hated how he looks, so some weirdness is to be expected.

                  [–]LarrySwinger2 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

Alright, it's done. Now if there was a page similar to /s/friends but for public upvotes from friends, we'd have a simulation of social media. Because who's going to check my upvotes manually? /u/magnora7 you might want to implement this.

It would by nice to have favorites in different categories. Like imgur.
And be able to share them.
That way you dont see my votes, but what I find important.

                    nice. Privacy set.

ITs bad enough with liberals necrostalking for ammunition, without them also bleating about "you upvoted a NAZI" or the admins culling me for liking an iron left post

Thanks, bob! lol (hope this triggers one of them)

See my last submission for actually awful admins. Ah, you did see it. Like I've said before, M7 is one of the good ones. Let's not tell him how much more he'd enjoy life if he just quit... What a thankless job.

he was one of the good ones. I've been on the receiving end of his ire, and seen him ban a friend over a misunderstanding.

He's like Trump. He's surrounded himself with the wrong people. Ones who tell him sweet lies and fuck him int he head at the same time

Hey everyone, @RottieTheWeldie asked via means outside of Poal that this be copy/pasted into the thread:

/u/Rottietheweldie here, I got locked out of my account, my saved login credentials became invalid. I switched VPN IPs & made a fresh alt, /u/rottiethebenned, made 5 comments in said thread informing a few users about what had just happened & got locked out again. Those 5 comments have been deleted. This time captchas weren't working to log into my fresh alt with a fresh VPN IP.

This was all on my phone, I made a new alt from my desktop & can't seem to comment in that thread.

The alt i made from my desktop, /u/rottietheunwelcomed has been logged out & credentials rendered invalid.

                    https://poal.co/s/Shitpostsub/331878/11395a66-f01a-42a0-9550-8ff88fefee8f#cmnts

That saga continued, with more unfair bannings and accounts being set to zero over simple disagreement. M7 is still looking like one of the best site owners to me, even if he's done everything people say. Not perfect, but pretty good in contrast to other sites I'm on.

The DOD is going to be hiring contractors to monitor all of us soon, so who knows where all this is going.

                    My votes were already public.

I don't vote for anything I don't view. I don't always look at the comments. I usually just throw all points at it, but reserve them when it's serious and inappropriate to be "fun" or when it's not insightful yet kinda funny.

My own posts I only vote fun if they are not serious and/or if others have voted it fun for points.

I used to be much more selective but 1) I got lazy and 2) points don't mean shit other than potential eyes. Everyone want's their shit seen, so that's how the stupid game is played. MetaVote could revolutionize things. I may post that idea next week.

I can't even remember the last time I looked at preferences. The last time I looked at all of them must have been 2.3 to 2.5 years ago, shortly after I joined.

If they're already anonymous, who cares about their "privacy"?

It's odd that comments voted fore aren't there. IMO, that is even more telling.

I wouldn't call myself a "fierce warrior", though I like the compliment. I would say that I'm just not intimidated. Call it fearless courage, call it stupid drama, call it what you want.

I wouldn't call public votes heroic either. Steemit had public voting. It's not that novel IMO, and being open is obviously good, but it's not directly fighting tyranny. I'd say there are many other ways to be heroic truth-seeking warriors, and some here do that too.
