I remember years ago being on the Joe My God website, like in the early 2010s, and there was a guy being dismissed as a troll for saying that there were queer theory people who didn't like the idea of gay men, and wanted everything to be about gender. "They don't think you are a man, you are a genderqueer two-spirit who needs hormones," something like that.

In retrospect, he was the dazed looking man who runs into town at the beginning of the horror movie warning us that they were coming, and we were the weary diner patrons who told him to go home, that he was drunk. Later, as the restaurant is closing, one of the waiters notices a strange noise out by the dumpsters as he is taking out the trash, and goes to investigate....

your story-telling ability in those few words were really nice, even if it was a frightening truth...

i didn't know some people tried to warn us. that's sad.

Do you remember how you reacted to that post?

Hiya, welcome to our little corner of sanity.

Doesn't sound awful and you're not alone in speculating about this—that our new credibility and acceptance kind of opened some floodgates for them. I think that's accurate.

Opportunists, in this case primarily narcissists, will jump on whatever vehicle gets them the power or attention or validation that they want. There was never really going to be another vehicle or a more obvious or immediately-available one than our movement, since the T got tacked on a couple of decades ago. A certain kind of person sees that and sees an opportunity and takes it. And they can do it very easily now since they can find and enable each other all over the 'net.

Social media is as much to blame for this as the existence of narcissists. They found each other and found out they had power collectively, to bully others. And narcissists love the mirror of social media.

It has been a perfect storm of factors that seems to have started with us just trying to be nice to another marginalized group, some of whom also happened to be LGB people in addition to trans. Some trans people are fine. They're not the ones hurting other people right now, of course, and they hate this too.

We were sitting ducks for this, in a way. Narcissists have always existed, and are always just looking for the biggest validation stage they can find.

Hope my response made sense, I'm a little distracted right now.

yes it did make sense, thank you!

i can't wrap my mind around the fact that there's so much narcissists out there and that people are fine with them to the point of bowing to each and every of their desire... no matter how little sense it makes. i mean, we pushed back religions from our laws for this ? really ? it doesn't makes any sense, that's the same thing, that's a belief they're imposing on everyone as they try to destroy anyone that does not agree with them... and i can't believe we have to fight it back, like it's not common sense for everyone that there's something wrong in there. and on top of that, when everything goes wrong who are we going to blame again ? us. we'll have to explain, again, that we are not like those kind of people... i'm ???? so confused by this world.

weren't they also always there?

Well, it's complicated. They were always there. Take the pedophiles. NAMBLA marched in Gay Pride parades for years, but in the 80s and 90s, gay activism started to become more professional. To that end, especially after the child sexual abuse scandals of the 1980s, gay activism started to clean house. NAMBLA was finally expelled from mainstream gay activism, both on ethical grounds and because they were a liability.

Under Elizabeth Birch's leadership (1995-2004) the Human Rights Campaign focused on LGB issues, and the TQ+ crowd despised her for it. But she understood that her mandate was to win battles against sodomy laws and military bans. She seems to have understood the implications of trans demands and how they could derail LGB progress.

But then came social media and sites like Tumblr that essentially recruited and created a whole new TQ+ demographic, and since 2014, they have hijacked LGB activism and used the social legitimacy that we created to try to claim the same thing for themselves.

i didn't knew about the existence of such a group... and that they used to march with the gay pride, that's actually very, very concerning...

So we are going full circle i guess, all the weirdos are now coming out of the shadow again, since they considere that we and them are the same, and do not understand why they couldn't impose their reality to the world. i hope that we will never ever associate with the tq+ or anyone else ever again, because it only means more troubles for every single generations.

There were quite a few, but they were purged from leadership positions beginning around 2010-ish.
