Finally, it seems states in the US are waking up to the horror of medicating children with gender dysphoria, writes Jo Bartosch. Last week Arkansas became the first state to pass a bill protecting children from puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and surgery. Sixteen other states are reportedly considering similar action.

Republican State Governor Asa Hutchinson attempted to veto the bill, but this was decisively and immediately overturned by the state legislature.

Protecting future gay adults from modern medical conversion therapy.

Way to go Arkansas.

In case anyone doesn't know what "WoLF" is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_Liberation_Front

That article had a bit more right-wing slant than would seem prudently objective, though, using terms like "the culture wars" and giving a nod to a conservative base in reference to same, when the issue is supposed to be about the health and safety of kids. So that was a little confusing given the other statements in the article which expressed such concerns. Who cares which part of the political spectrum is happy now? /rhetorical

I totally agree with your read. That was jarring, alienating, and unhelpful to read. It gives false credence to the idea that this is a liberal vs conservative issue.

When you have the man in the White House signing away women's rights on behalf of trans Day One, and the entire Democrat party pushing the Erasure of Women Act, and the VP putting pronouns on her Twitter, and Biden announcing that violence against TWOC is a crisis in America, it DOES give the impression that the Democrats are TRA. You're not going to see the issue being presented as not so "liberal vs conservative" until more liberal voices can be heard opposing this.

This is true and I have no delusions about why it looks this way, but I think it’s the responsibility of people opposing this movement who do not consider themselves conservative (which includes me and should include Jo Bartosch who is a radfem) to explain why this is the wrong takeaway and the circumstances of how we ended up in this position. And that’s largely the result of the liberal media blackout on this issue.

Totally agree. I wish "why isn't the liberal (in USA 95% of!) the media covering this?" should be a mantra.

I wish every big media name had to sit down in front of a camera, live, and tell us (not reading a script, but tell us) "why do you frame these stories as anti-trans instead of as children's well-being issues? Why do you say 'anti-trans' instead of 'protecting women's rights to safety and privacy'?"

Liberalism (the ideology not the incorrectly implied left) aligns perfectly with gender activism though. Anything which can swing more power into the hands of corporations while using vacuous minority identities as a shield to pretend to be progressive aligns perfectly and the most empty of all minority identities are gender identities. Amazon can spam BLM signs on their website then operate operate like a feudal state making their mostly POC serfs piss and shit in bags but people can see the incongruity because it's obvious what a black person is and obvious that their messaging doesn't align with the way they treat workers.

Corporations can spam pro gender TRA stuff and everything is so ill defined that it's easy to seem ultra progressive while doing nothing.

I didn't initially pick up on that probably because I've seen those terms thrown around so much but I think you're right: focus on the issue instead of partisan politics.

To be fair, the 2 uses of the term "culture war" were quotes from legislators before it was brought up in the phrase "many had been unaware of the culture wars" in the final paragraph.

Not sure why anyone should care what the opposite side thinks (whether it's conservative christians or whoever). Don't people have their own principles anymore, or has that all been outsourced to social media!?

Ah, I might have missed that last mention. Just hoping this news source doesn't nuke its own credibility.

Just checking in to say I agree about the article seeming overly politically-focused. I'm tempted to upvote for the event, but hesitant about the article (and the publication overall, tbh).

Yeah, I'm hesitant about the publication as well. Still observing. This didn't help, exactly.
