TBH I think the concept of gay and lesbian will eventually just fade out once the gender binary is abolished, bc the concept of gender based attraction wouldn’t make sense anymore when there is no gender.

Well good thing we are same-SEX attracted and that biological sex is real. So no, homosexuality will not "eventually fade out".

That statement is so bizarre to me, because it sounds like it's written from the POV of a person who has never been attracted to another human being. Even if you are bisexual or "pansexual", what exactly does this person think attraction is, and what are we attracted to? I can't think of anyone who seriously thinks "ah yeah, I am SO turned on by the arbitrary non-physical intangible 'identity' you made up for yourself".

It's also a metaphorical slap in the face to those of us who are attracted to the same sex, but not the gender roles associated with that sex. I'm attracted to dicks but I'm not at all into masculinity, what does that make me? Am I "straight" because the guys I would ideally like would be feminine? What the hell.

Don't usually agree, but you hit the nail on the head. They write like asexual aliens trying to understand human sexuality...

Many of these kids are too young to have even had sex. They're literally crowdsourcing their sexuality to the internet.

They're literally crowdsourcing their sexuality to the internet.

Exactly: they go to the internet and ask in posts, "Am I asexual? Am I bisexual? Am I lesbian? Am I queer? Am I valid?" When really, there is no way people on the internet will be able to tell, all they have is what you've given them. They are, indeed, literally crowdsourcing their self-described sexual orientations.

[–]Femaleisnthateful 15 insightful - 10 fun15 insightful - 9 fun16 insightful - 10 fun -  (0 children)

Shockingly, they're never not 'queer' :-)

This so much!

Tumblr is a cesspool of teens trying to figure themselves out. Which in and of itself isn't necessarily bad! Teens trying to figure out their identity (in the normal self-concept sense of the word) and sexuality is a normal developmental milestone.

But when you give them all this weird ideological stuff to work with, and insist that it's serious business and should be respected, you get weird shit.

It just reminds me of 1984. The eventual purpose of newspeak is to eliminate thoughtcrime because there will no longer be any words in the language to express it.

I always liked Animal Farm better. Four legs good, two legs bad eventually turned into four legs good, two legs better. The architects of the revolution turned out to be the biggest sellouts.

Have you seen GLAAD’s glossary of terms?

Heterosexual An adjective used to describe people whose enduring physical, romantic, and/ or emotional attraction is to people of the opposite sex. Also straight.

Homosexual (see Offensive Terms to Avoid) Outdated clinical term considered derogatory and offensive. The Associated Press, New York Times and Washington Post restrict usage of the term.

Except wasn't the term homosexual coined by a gay man to provide legitimacy to people's experience of exclusive same-sex attraction?

Also, funny how heterosexuality will never go away in this hypothetical scenario.

Self-awarewolves?

I mean, you just said the answer yourself. You can't base attraction on gender, especially with how quickly TRAs change the concepts of gender. Also gender stereotypes vary a lot based on culture and times. So instead you can base it on, you know, sex.

Hey, sorry this is random but-- when I see your comments first posted, they usually say "0 insightful 0 fun" which means you must've removed the initial upvote on your own comments. Do you do that on purpose for a particular reason? Just curious.

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Oh no biggie. It was a thing I was just doing automatically. I don't really have a reason, I guess I thought it was a glitch that it upvoted it right away? But if it does that for everyone then I will stop removing it.

We didn't adopt anything invented by the "evil cishet white man"

They observed a phenomenon and put a very objective and descriptive name to it derived from Greek. It's like if I found sand that was naturally green and called it "green sand" and then that descriptor became widespread. I didn't invent anything, I was just the first one to describe that specific something that occurs in nature using language

[–]yousaythosethingsFind and Replace "gatekeeping" with "having boundaries" 19 insightful - 3 fun19 insightful - 2 fun20 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

They’re projecting because they invent phenomena that isn’t real by wishing it into existence by giving it a name. Like “gender identity” and whatever bullshit genders they come up with.

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Oh boy this is extremely racist on top of being homophobic ("non-gender binary Indigenous societies" LOL). Textbook example of the "noble savage" stereotype, that Indigenous societies (which are incredibly culturally/linguistically/ethnically varied, geographically diverse, and all around different) were just made up of people too stupid and "savage" to know what biological sex and reproduction was. Even animals know what biological sex and reproduction is! Wtf.

Just because they didn't use the English word "homosexuality", they still knew, and know what it is, and accepted or stigmatized it in varying levels across different societies.

Also, the concept of "same-gender attraction" wouldn't "make sense in the future" because it doesn't make sense now, because it's false! Attraction always has been and always will be sex-based.

"non-gender binary Indigenous societies"

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Do it. They won't be able to answer, because the whole concept of "non-binary Indigenous society" is a Tumblr construct. Most "Indigenous third genders" are just cultural terms for feminine homosexual men. Two spirit is a recent phenomenon, and doesn't come from any one nation in particular.

[–][deleted] 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

They sound like Timmy in that episode of the fairly odd parents where Timmy wished everyone looked the same so no one would get made fun of for looking different. But that backfired horribly because people will always find ways to be shitty to each other. In the end it didn't solve anything and caused more problems because people couldn't tell each other apart.

It's not the most accurate comparison but the underlying concept still stands. There's no point in trying to make everyone the same, regardless of the motive behind it. Just like people will always find ways to be shitty, you will always be excluded from someone's dating pool for one reason or another. Get over it and move on with your life.

It astounds me that a fucking kids show that aired 20 years ago can nail this concept, but TRAs act like the sky is falling because reality hurts their gender feels.

Probably going to make someone feel old reading this, but I recently learned about the premise behind the show Hogan's Heroes and I couldn't believe it. If someone tried to run something like that today, there would be immediate crying tantrums and cancelling from people who have no living memory of WW2 AT ALL.

[–]hufflepuff-poet 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

What was the premise behind the show?

[–]ChodeSandwichtender and moist 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I saw part of the intro while on a job and had to look it up after noticing the Nazis everywhere. Wikipedia: "Hogan's Heroes centers on U.S. Army Air Forces Colonel Robert Hogan and his staff of experts who are prisoners of war (POW) in 1942. The plot occurs in the fictional Stalag 13, located in an unspecified place in Nazi Germany, where the winter season is permanent."

ETA: The show was a situational comedy, not a dramatic or gritty piece of historical fiction. Can't say if there was a laugh track or not.
